Chrome Aims for 10% Market Share, Mac Release by the End of 2009Just a year ago, Google had released the very first build of Chrome web browser which already has ~3.5% market share worldwide.

During the Chrome 3 stable release for PCs, Google Product Management VP Sundar Pichai has confirmed that the Mac version of Chrome should be ready by the end of this year.

Also, Google Chrome Engineering Director Linus Upson said:
“If at the two-year birthday we’re not at least 5 percent (market share), I will be exceptionally disappointed. And if at the three year birthday we’re not at 10 percent, I will be exceptionally disappointed,”

Opera Mini 5 Beta ConfirmedGuys over “Choose Opera” group have confirmed that the recently appeared teaser page (opera.com/next) is actually for Opera Mini 5.

Although they have not revealed any release date, I would say it’s going to happen this week.

Zii EGG Tested With Opera

Even though the Zii EGG is not yet launched, the development kit has been delivered to some testing hands, and it uses Opera as default web browser.

Chrome 4 in the Works

Although Chrome 3.0 is still in Beta, Google engineers have already started to work on Chrome 4.0 web browsers and revealed first pre-alpha builds.

As Anthony LaForge explained: We’ve officially bumped Chromium to 4.0.x to reflect our code freeze point for 3.0. There is still a bit of work that needs to be done for 3.0 in terms of stability and fixes, and to that end we will be pulling changes into the 195 branch (what will become the stable release).

Chrome 4.0 does not bring any significant changes yet, when compared to the latest 3.0 Beta snapshot.

Netscape Founder to Rejoin Browser Wars with RockMeltMarc Andreessen, founder of Netscape Communications has formed a startup called RockMelt which is supposed to develop a brand new web browser.

A Glimpse to Firefox 3.6

After sharing Firefox 3.7 and Firefox 4.0 functionality as well as user interface changes, it’s time to start focusing on the next Firefox release (code named Namoroka) which is going to be 3.6.

The upcoming Firefox version will be based on Gecko 1.9.2 layout engine and is targeted for early-to-mid 2010 release.
