By | October 10, 2007 | 9 Comments

Firefox MobileAre you excited? It’s just been announced. There were a plenty of rumors regarding Firefox Mobile and now it’s official. Mozilla are developing Firefox for mobile phone which should be released till the end of this year. Like original Firefox it will be open-source software and that means a lot to developers and users as well. As for now there are still not many details known, Firefox Mobile will be able to run Firefox extensions on the mobile phone and the fact that many people already joined Mozilla in order to help build the best mobile web browser.

Should Opera Mini, Opera Mobile, iPhone Web Browser and Microsoft Deepfish developers be worried already?

Opera 9.5 – More Details Revealed

    By | August 26, 2007 | 3 Comments

OperaThere was some (one?) complain(s) in the “No Opera 9.5 or Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 or Final Today” post that Opera team haven’t posted anything in THEIR blog. So here you go, they did it on Saturday evening.

Whole post tells about Opera 9.5 developing, there are still many issues which needs to be fixed before releasing first public build and as Junyor (Tim Altman) said: “We have strict quality standards that have not yet been met”. That explains everything.

    New Features

Opera always hides most important features which will be available in their next browser release, whether it’s Opera for desktop, Opera for mobile phone or any other one. I really like that. It makes you excite about something what you don’t know and when only a day or two are being left before release, they start to tease you even more. Thank you for that.

OK, new features/fixes. So not many was revealed, but here are the few:

An ability to manually update newsfeeds, just press F5 and you are done (I hope they will add some kind of button in the interface too).
Remember when you’ve clicked View > Encoding menu and it didn’t do anything for messages? Fixed.

    That’s all. Let’s wait.

Internet Explorer (IE 8) 8 (Codename IE.next) Stuff

    By | June 24, 2007 | 6 Comments

While all the companies are developing their “future” web browsers like Firefox 3, Safari 3, Opera 10, Netscape (not sure if they are developing version 10 or 9.5) Microsoft is currently working on their new project, as you know it’s Internet Explorer 8, codename IE.next.

Microsoft is still not talking very much about Internet Explorer (IE8) 8 features, but as far as I know new version will feature JavaScript improvements and something called “Web Assistant” (not confirmed) (??? Office Assistant Clone ???) which would help users to find all the needed stuff much faster and more accurate. It was also said, that they will spend more time with layout and adhering to the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) 2.1 specifications (hey, where’s CSS 3?).

According to Microsoft, we should see new IE.next Beta after Windows Vista Service Pack 1 release.

What can we expect from this new release? I am not really sure, IE7 started to show some web pages differently than IE6 did (web developers pain), but Microsoft said that new Internet Explorer 8 should render them as IE7 did (or they are trying to do that).

I still don’t think that it will be “a big bang” in web browsers world, it’s bit too late to catch that train now, there are so many great and much better browsers, but who knows… We are waiting.

    Upcoming Safari Web Browser Features

    By | June 17, 2007 | 0 Comments

I’ve recently noticed a list of upcoming Safari 3.x features and thought about posting them here. So here you go:

    • Support for International users
    • International text input methods
    • Advanced text (contextual forms, international scripts)
    • Localized menus and help
    • NTLM support
    • PAC file auto-detection
    • FTP directory listings
    • Link to proxy settings from Safari (Safari respects the proxy settings in the Windows Internet control panel)
    • Cookie management
    • LiveConnect support
    • Tooltips
    • Spell checking
    • Printing page numbers, titles, margins

Some of those features looks promising. I wonder if spell check will be like Opera browser 9.2 and previous or Firefox style (in-line spell checker). If they would make it “in-line”, this could really help them to grab some more share. We are waiting for more news…
