Here comes the desktop.
It looks like Google is not prepared to repeat the mistake they made by not extending the deal with Mozilla to (again) become their default search provider. In a recently announced move, Opera Software and search giant have come to an agreement and will be extending their partnership where Google continue to be Opera’s default search engine on both desktop and mobile platforms.
Last time companies have signed a deal back in 2012 with the current agreement set to expire within 2.5 years (at the end of 2017).

Despite the fact that Jon Von Tetzchner has left Opera Software long time ago (to focus on other things), it looks like his love for web browsers refuses to vanish.

It‘s the first day of the summer right here and what better way to start June than to publish fresh mobile market share data numbers.
Now here is something that should impact the vast majority of people that decided to give Microsoft Edge a try. According to the latest report, the software giant has partnered with Dolby to bring some of the audio technologies to its web browser.
So how exactly is this beneficial? Well, if you have a surround system hooked up then developers will be able to leverage it and enhance your overall listening experience, yes, even thorough the web browser. However, the good news don’t stop there. What if you have a regular laptop with not so great speakers, headphones or just a PC that utilizes simple 2.1 setup? Thanks to the new Dolby Digital Plus mode that is coming with Windows 10, you should be getting a much clearer and louder audio as well. Or to put it simply, everybody wins.

Just over a year ago, Alibaba has acquired UCWeb, a company behind UC Browser, which has a mind boggling user base of 500 million and more than 100 million active daily users.
However, as it turns out, there is a pretty serious “flaw” (or lazy design), which would allow anyone to identify your phone number, search queries, location and the device itself. What do we mean by saying lazy design? Well, it’s not exactly a security vulnerability as the only issue with UC Browser is that it does not encrypt traffic, which could allow your network operator or in-path actor on the network to access your data.

Back in December, we have reported that Mozilla has finally recognized the importance of iOS and began working on a Firefox web browser for iPhone and iPad.
Now, it looks like the open source organization is ready to share it with the rest of the world. According to a new job listing (where Mozilla is looking for a talented product manager for Firefox Mobile), “a new Firefox for iOS application arriving soon”.

It looks like Mozilla’s plan to conquer the world with a $25 Firefox OS smartphone did not exactly went as planned. According to the recently revealed internal email that was sent by the Chris Beard himself (the CEO of Mozilla), the open source organization has failed to gain any sufficient traction to justify the further significant investments as far as the ultra-low cost smartphone program goes.
“We have not seen sufficient traction for a $25 phone, and we will not pursue all parts of the program. We will focus on efforts that provide a better user experience, rather than focusing on cost alone.”
It looks like Firefox just set itself on fire.
When your market share keeps decreasing month over month, what can you do in order to win back at least some of the lost users? Useful new features? Performance improvements? User interface tweaks? If you have answered to any of these questions “yes” then you are wrong, at least according to Mozilla’s management.
We are not exactly sure what are they thinking but for some reason they have decided that the best way to improve Firefox users experience (or try to squeeze as much money as possible before the browser’s market share drops to single digits (which is already at 11.70% compared to 17.26% a year ago) is to show you ads!
