Browsers Memory Battle
June 30, 2008 by Vygantas Lipskas · 9 Comments
There is an article in ComputerWorld.com called “Firefox 3.0 wins memory battle, says tester“. Sam Allen was testing Firefox, Internet Explorer (IE), Flock, Opera and Safari web browsers to see who wins in the memory management. “Test” is quite funny. There are no graphs at all and basically nothing… I guess this is what quality article is all about.

Let’s begin with the quote from Opera’s Vision page:
We believe in respect for our users.
… Opera Software will never forget that its main focus is the user. Read more

Time for some tips and tricks. Percy Cabello wrote a great article on how you can tweak your location bar. For example: make autocomplete menu show only typed addresses and not visited or bookmarked, how to change the number of suggestions displayed in the autocomplete menu and more.
If you want to play with Firefox 3 location bar a bit, this can help you a lot.

Saving untrusted files to the Windows desktop may lead to the execution of arbitrary code
Visiting a malicious website which is in a trusted Internet Explorer zone may lead to the automatic execution of arbitrary code
Visiting a maliciously crafted website may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution

Firefox 3 Reaches 8 290 908 Downloads in 24 Hours
June 18, 2008 by Vygantas Lipskas · 7 Comments
The numbers are here. After 24 hours, Firefox 3 was downloaded 8 290 908 times. That’s what I call a good marketing campaign which requires no or very less cash. Who can now complain with the phrase like “we don’t have a lot of money for big marketing campaign?” Anyone could have done that, but Firefox team members are geniuses and did that first.
It’s not clear yet if this record will be added to the Guinness book, waiting for approval.
Congratulations.
