Opera Buys Skyfire Labs For Up To $155 Million
Opera’s biggest purchase yet?
Skyfire Labs, a company that raised $23 million just over a year ago, has been acquired by Opera Software in a deal said to be worth up to $155 million in both cash and stock. This includes an upfront payment of $50 million and performance based payments over the next 3 years.
While it’s been a while since we heard about Skyfire’s web browser, it looks like this wasn’t the only driving force behind the acquisition.

Opera Launches Unlimited Music Service In Russia
For Windows Phone, Android and iOS (limited functionality).
Now here is something interesting to kickstart your day. In Russia, a country where Opera is especially loved, Norwegian company is launching an unlimited music service.
Priced at 150 rubles per month ($4.75), Windows Phone and Android users will be able to stream and download music from a selection of over 2 million tracks (Russian and non-Russian) while the iPhone and iPad users will be limited to streaming service only. Why? Limited iOS functionality and restrictions are blamed.

Opera 12.2 Final Coming Early Next Year?

Opera Software Renews Its Search Contract With Google
After a couple of months of negotiations, it looks like both companies have finally agreed to the terms and have since signed the search partner agreement.
As a part of the contract, Google will be a default search provider for both Opera’s desktop and mobile web browsers.
Thankfully, the contract will expire in less than two years rather than months, on 01.08.2014.
Latest Opera 12.02 Build Ditches The Out Of Process Plugins
Windows only.
Even though the final build of Opera 12 disabled the hardware acceleration feature by default with stability to blame, users still enjoyed another significant improvement: the out of process plugins.
Now, according to the official blog post, the latest Opera 12.02 build will disable such feature as well, at least for the 32 bit versions of Windows builds.

Opera Now Has 200 Million Mobile Users
With the release of the latest mobile web trends report, Norwegian browser maker has announced that their mobile products (Opera Mini and Opera Mobile) are now used by more than 200 million people worldwide.
As it turns out, the majority of these numbers come from the Opera Mini (183 million users) while Opera Mobile is used by 17 million people.
