Firefox 8 To Use IE9 Like User Protection
It looks like Mozilla is implementing more and more features from its competitors.
Just like in Internet Explorer 9, starting with Firefox 8, Mozilla will automatically block web browser add-ons that are not yet approved by the user.
In case other software installs an add-on, Firefox 8 will disable it and notify the user.
In the world where a plenty of companies inject their add-ons into Firefox, such as: Skype, anti-virus software, etc. it’s a very welcomed step nonetheless.
Mozilla Won’t Ditch Firefox Version Numbers After All
Mozilla will not get rid of the version number present in Firefox’s “About” box after all, putting an end to a rather heated debate that first surfaced a few weeks ago.
There are no plans to adjust the version number. It will remain in its current place in the About window, and we are going to continue with the current numbering scheme. – Alex Faaborg, a principal designer at Mozilla
In another message in the mozilla.dev.usability discussion list, Faaborg blamed “miscommunication inside of the user experience team” for the commotion about the departing version number.

Mozilla To Ditch Firefox Version Number
Mozilla’s decision to strip the version number from Firefox’s “About” dialog box has been greeted by a nearly unanimous thumbs down, according to a lengthy, and at times heated, debate on a company discussion list.
The pushback was the second in as many months against Mozilla, which found itself the center of a late June controversy over its apparent lack of interest in enterprise customers. Asa Dotzler, a director of Firefox, explained why Mozilla was dumping the version number in a thread in the mozilla.dev.usability discussion group.

Chase.com Goes Down For Firefox Users
Firefox users had trouble accessing JPMorgan Chase’s website chase.com today when the bank experienced problems with an outdated security certificate. Going by a Chase spokesman, the Firefox certificate was updated on the bank’s servers in about 45 minutes, fixing the issue.
The outage involved a lapsed security certificate. Website servers present certificates to a customer’s browsers to verify identities. This certificate, which has information such as the address of the site, is verified by a third party that is trusted by a user’s computer. A certificate that is outdated or lapsed would appear as having been revoked by the issuing server.

Download Firefox 6 Final
Jumping ahead of schedule, Mozilla has uploaded the Final version of Firefox 6 web browser into their servers for you to download.
Although the official changelog is not yet available, Firefox 6 will include the following new features and enhancements:

Firefox’s Memory Appetite Decreased By 20% To 30%
Firefox 7, set to ship in late September, will be quite a bit faster because of recent efforts to plug the browser’s memory leaks. Mozilla developer Nicholas Nethercote credited the “MemShrink” project for closing memory bugs in the browser and producing a faster Firefox. MemShrink was announced approximately two months ago.
Firefox 7 uses less memory than Firefox 6 (and 5 and 4): often 20% to 30% less, and sometimes as much as 50% less. This means that Firefox 7 is faster (sometimes drastically so) and less likely to crash, particularly if you have many websites open at once and/or keep Firefox running for a long time between restarts. – Nicholas Nethercote, programmer at Mozilla
Fake Firefox Update Includes Trojan
According to various reports, some users have recently received a Firefox update notification to their emails with a download link for you to try.
Don’t worry though; it does actually include a Firefox 5.0.1 installer. However, it is bundled with a Trojan horse, which is not exactly what people prefer.
