Eh… So Much Of Those Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) Leaked Features

By | July 30, 2007 | 5 Comments

Eh… When I got information about leaked Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) features, I thought there will be some interesting stuff to read… But I was wrong.

So what are those Internet Explorer 8 “BIG leaked” features? Undo close tab and sessions… Oh come on, it took you 1 year to develop that? Was it hard? We are already using all those “features”.

Dear Microsoft, if you will keep “adding/stealing” those “features”, wouldn’t it be better for you just don’t waste your time, burn Internet Explorer 8 project docs and pretend that they even didn’t existed, cause that is what’s going to happen sooner or later.

They will never change.

Do You Like Your Web Browser? Show Us How You Like It

By | July 30, 2007 | 0 Comments

Web browsers won’t be so popular without their greatest fans, spreading the word all over the world. So how about we have a fans section, where you could send pictures and/or photos with your favorite web browser. Do you have a poster in your bedroom with Internet Explorer logo? Take a picture and send it to my email, we will publish it here. Do you have some stickers with Safari logo on your laptop? Again, take a picture and send it to my email. Or maybe you have just bought new Firefox or Opera T-Shirts? Take a picture and send that too.

Email: myATfavbrowser.com

Sorry, no prizes (unless you want to give them :-)) But as long as you will send fans stuff, I will keep posting them here.

Why It’s Not Enough To Have All The Greatest Features

By | July 28, 2007 | 7 Comments

Web BrowsersIt’s pretty obvious that we all want fast and feature rich browsers. That isn’t exactly a secret, therefore, I’d like to talk about some of the “harmful” effects and why it’s not enough to have all the greatest features.

OK, let’s go straight to the point.

Why it’s not enough? Imagine that there is a new web browser, FavBrowser 1.0. It’s brand new, only people who are reading this blog know about it. So it gets like 10 000 downloads, well… That’s good, right? NO. You see, let’s say that FavBrowser 1.0 is the world’s most secure browser, also with some of the most stunning features and just the best one there is. Is this good? No. It’s actually bad. Why?

10 000 users are using this web browser… Browser receives a market share of 0.00001% or something like this, and what the other web browser developers do? They take most popular FavBrowser features and integrate them into their web browsers…

What’s then? They are popular web browsers, so they get huge boost and lots of attention, market share grows… While FavBrowser 1.0 gets less attention, other web browser’s market share is already gaining very fast (with “stolen” features). So I am developing FavBrowser 2.0 and I have better greatest ideas. I release it, same happens again, I get market share of 0.00002%, other web browser developers steal my features again and what’s then? That makes it almost impossible to compete with them anymore, they are gaining market share very fast, I am out of ideas, FavBrowser 2.0 dies…

I am not sure if you got my point, so will try to explain. What did I wrong? I should get investors, buy advertising, get lots of attention and that’s all… So my point is: it’s not enough to have all the greatest features, it’s enough to develop a good marketing strategy. With no advertising good products will die, and with good advertising even the worst products will be popular.

Still No Browser Of The Month

By | July 27, 2007 | 4 Comments

Well… It’s August soon… We still don’t have “Browser of the Month”, as there are no new (not minor) web browsers releases and/or updates. And I don’t want to review all of them now, because there are plenty of reviews already, like Firefox vs IE7 vs Opera 9, etc…

I have no idea when Opera 9.5 goes public and then final. Firefox 3 Final should be released somewhere in November, but that’s really long time to wait (yea… IE8 will be released someday…). So I am just waiting for updates as you do too…

More Details About Opera 9.5

By | July 27, 2007 | 0 Comments

While we are waiting for some new releases, “Opera Desktop Team” revealed more details about upcoming Opera 9.5 (codename Kestrel) release.

As it says in their “Screen reader support” post, here are some finished stuff:

Windows:

  • Good support for the Microsoft Accessibility API (MSAA).
  • Close cooperation with other screen reader vendors.

Mac:

  • Excellent support of the Mac API for Accessibility.
  • Excellent support of VoiceOver.

Yes, no Opera 9.5 builds today, maybe we will get it another day (hope so).

What’s New In The Next Firefox 3 Release?

By | July 26, 2007 | 2 Comments

So there will be few more new things in the next Firefox 3 release. First of all, it’s a page zoom (like Opera’s one).

New “google-safe-browsing” protocol and better scripting support.

That’s all what I read so far, let’s wait for more news.

Mozilla To Develop A New JavaScript Engine (ActionMonkey)

By | July 24, 2007 | 0 Comments

It seems that Mozilla Devs ain’t sleeping. They are going to develop a brand new JavaScript engine called “ActionMonkey“.

ActionMonkey is the code-name for the project to integrate Tamarin and SpiderMonkey as part of Mozilla 2.

Stage 0 of this project is underway. What they are going to do now is to replace SpiderMonkey’s GC (jsgc) with Tamarin’s GC (MMgc).

Their new efforts will boost performance for sure and I am waiting for more news from ActionMonkey blog.

An Interview With DCT, MPack Developer

By | July 23, 2007 | 0 Comments

Somehow nothing interesting is going in the last few days, but today I’ve read something more interesting, it’s an interview with “DCT”, MPack developer.

More about MPack:

The project is not so profitable compared to other activities on the Internet. It’s just a business. While it makes income, we will work on it, and while we are interested in it, it will live.
“DCT”, one of three developers of the MPack infection kit
A year later, the MPack kit has become an increasingly popular tool, allowing data thieves and bot masters to take control of victims’ systems and steal personal information. The MPack infection kit has been blamed for hundreds of thousands of compromised computers.

And here’s what is bit more:

Anything else you’d like to add?
I would advise you to use the Opera browser with scripts and plug-ins disabled in order not to be caught by the MPack someday.
