Firefox 4 Market Share Increases 30% After Upgrade Offer
Firefox 4′s market share went up by 11% after Mozilla initiated the upgrade offer last week. That was only on the first day, however, for the browser managed 30% market share growth in the four days since the offer began. This prompted Mozilla’s community coordinator for Firefox marketing Asa Dotzler to compare the gains of Firefox and Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) as both of the browsers launched in March of this year.
IE9 will never catch up to Firefox. It will be a year or two before Microsoft can move the bulk of their IE7 and IE8 users forward.
Mozilla and Opera Mock Microsoft’s Native HTML5 Claims
It looks like not everyone is digging the native HTML5 marketing claims from the software giant.
With the launch of Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 1, Microsoft had to say the following:
Web sites and HTML5 run best when they run natively, on a browser optimized for the operating system on your device. We built IE9 from the ground up for HTML5 and for Windows to deliver the most native HTML5 experience and the best Web experience on Windows. The only native experience of the Web of HTML5 today is on Windows 7 with IE9.
Mozilla’s former director of Firefox, Mike Beltzner, was quick to respond, ridiculing the term on Bugzilla, the company’s bug tracking database.

IE9 to Firefox 4 Comparisons Are Misleading
According to Microsoft at least.
The Redmond firm proudly declared that IE9 had managed 2.3 million downloads a day after the browser’s release (14th of March), but is obviously feeling the heat with Firefox’s 4 more spectacular numbers.
Ryan Gavin, senior director of IE marketing, had the following to say:
With Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 4, and Chrome 10 all hitting their final releases recently, drawing instant comparisons around downloads or initial usage is a natural temptation, but unfortunately you can’t do it quite yet.
Internet Explorer 9 to be the Fastest and Safest Web Browser
Microsoft’s Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Turner has made a bold statement, saying that Internet Explorer 9 will not only be the safest and most secure browser, but also, the fastest web browser in the market:
“IE9 is going to be not only the most safest and secure browser in the market, which IE8 is today, it will be the fastest browser in the market. You saw some demos of that on day one. It’s a smoking hot browser product,”
According to earlier published slides, Internet Explorer 9 Beta is set for August release, therefore, it won’t take long to confirm or deny such claim.

Internet Explorer 9 Details to Emerge in March
In the upcoming MIX10 conference, which begins in March 15th, Microsoft will be revealing more Internet Explorer 9 details.
One of the MIX10 team members also noted: “As General Manager of the team, Dean Hachamovitch is responsible for the design, development, and release of Internet Explorer. We welcome Dean back to the stage as one of our MIX10 keynoters in Las Vegas next month. After all, what would our premier web conference be without a browser update!? Dean will talk about changes and improvements that have been made to Internet Explorer 9 since PDC09, and his talk is sure to include a couple of surprises.”
It is yet unknown, whether Microsoft will make release available to general public or not. Although that would certainly be a nice surprise.
