Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2 Is Here

Got to love Wednesdays and Thursdays. Usually, that’s when software vendors release new applications and various updates. One of such releases is Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2 for both, Symbian/S60 and Windows Mobile handsets. Just like Opera Mini 5 Beta 2, this version also includes Opera Link and download manager. Also, some bug fixes and few other improvements.

Changelog

Windows Mobile and Symbian

  • Opera Link
  • Download manager
  • UI is more finger-friendly on touch devices
  • Possible to manage search engines
  • Opera remembers page position and zoom state when moving in history
  • Column snapping also on touch
  • Better memory management
  • Fix for mobile view crash
  • Start page available from touch menu
  • Lots of minor bug fixes
  • Clear cache setting

Windows Mobile only

  • Asks whether to set Opera as default browser on install
  • Fix for crash on startup (occurred on some devices due to encoding in bookmarks that were imported)
  • Shortcut support

There are also some known issues, be sure to check them.

Download.

It’s nice to have Opera Link in it. The problem is, it does not work for me. I log in, it says it’s synchronizing, and it’s done, but my bookmarks are nowhere to find…

It tries to sync Speed Dial entries too – with a bit more success…

Damnit! After upgrade all my favorites and speed dials are gone!

Bad enough I had to manually restore them from v9, but now have to do it again???

I think an Opera Mobile version for Android too is ready, but it is not available for public consumption. The following page says its only available on demand to the operators and OEMs. I hope they release a public version soon.
Also, it seems that they have already released the final version of Opera Mobile 10 to the operators and OEMS.
