Firefox 4 Beta 4 to Include Sync, Hardware Acceleration
It looks like the upcoming Firefox 4 Beta 4 release is set to include Firefox Sync; a feature that allows users to synchronize bookmarks, tabs, history, preferences, etc. among Firefox desktop and mobile platforms.
Furthermore, Beta 4 will have hardware acceleration enabled by default on Windows machines.
If everything goes as expected, we shall see the availability of Firefox 4 Beta 4 next Monday (August 23rd).

Well all the last Firefox betas have sucked really badly, so I’m not holding my breath, and I’m willing to bet right now, that Opera and Chrome will still spank Firefox in benchmarks with their software backend with Firefox using hardware accel.
Opera have been working on hardware acceleration for some time, with rumours of a beta arriving in the next month or so.
Opera is already the fastest, with hardware accel it’s going to totally destroy the competition.
At least firefox is catching up to Opera… First, they copied opera 10.6’s look now, they’re adding sync… What’s next? Firefox turbo?
We have already gone through why this is false here.
As for syncing, there are tons of prior art, such as Bookmark Sync and Sort and Xmarks. Both of which were introduced in 2006.
What kind of “Hardware Acceleration” are we talking about? is it some kind of 3D rendering and HD decoding? or is it GPGPU compatible(DX Compute/OpenCL) code?
It”s Direct2D hardware acceleration
