5 Web Browsers Download Manager Features to Kill Internet Download Accelerators

By | February 26, 2008

Web BrowserWeb browsers developers are trying to make files download process as good as possible. When Internet Explorer was launched, files download process was not so user friendly, lots of corrupted files and unstable download speed (actually, IE team haven’t changed anything yet). More and more people downloaded additional programs for faster and better files download experience. Since then, other web browsers developers learned from Internet Explorer mistakes and started to add additional features into web browsers integrated download managers. One of the most important features was an ability to resume downloads.

While web browsers still can’t replace internet download accelerators (as it’s a web browser and not download manager), there are a few features, which would stop most of the people from using them in the future:

1. An ability to change downloadable file URL.
2. An ability to add and remove downloadable file types.
3. Files split in smaller parts.
4. Scheduler.
5. Speed limit.

As web browsers now are becoming more than just an application to surf the internet, it’s important to understand that everyone is always downloading something. This is an inseparable part of rich internet experience (which web browsers should provide).

What do you think about web browsers download managers? Should they be improved?
