WebGL: iOS RAGE

Earlier this year, RAGE, the upcoming 3rd person shooter from the id Software (set for September release) has received an iOS version of the game.

Now, Brandon Jones, the US based software developer took one step further and rendered it with WebGL. That’s right, RAGE running in your web browser!

     Very bad news. I’m afraid it is the beginning of the end of personal software and Personal Computing in general.

       As a game developer though, it’s very good news.

      It could also mean a lot of good things will happen, as webtechnologies like HTML5/CSS3 are a lot more open formats, it is hard to lock users into systems. A lot seems to be based around using open source software as well.

      So hopefully we’ll see a lot less vendor-lockin. This will hopefully prevent stupid problems like with Microsoft Office formats and the Apple apptore and locked down phones.
