RockMelt Beta 2 Out Now

By | April 12, 2011

RockMelt Beta 2 Now OutRockMelt Beta 2 is now out, offering a new chat experience, the View Later feature, a new Twitter app, and Chromium 10 updates.

As it was the most requested feature, the chat bar has been completely redone, with chats now being placed in the chat bar at the bottom so as to remain visible while browsing. Notifications for incoming messages are now more subtle to boot, and chats can be turned into separate windows by dragging them off of the chat bar.

View Later, on the other hand, allows users to save any links and any URL from the App Edge for later viewing. Individual posts from Twitter, Facebook, and other feeds are included. If you want to visit something again at a later time, just click the View Later icon and it will be there waiting for you. View Later is also accessible from any computer as long as you download RockMelt and sign in into your account.

Along with a visual redesign, the new Twitter app boasts new features as well. Updates are viewed instantly, retweets can be edited, direct messages can be viewed, all users can be responded to at once, and Twitter can now easily be searched as well.

Last, but not least, RockMelt now benefits from the latest Chromium updates as well. All users will be updated to RockMelt Beta 2 automatically.

With Flock now being gone, perhaps RockMelt will fulfill the need for social web browsing.

RockMelt Beta 2 can be downloaded from here.

I don’t get it. It’s just Chrome, but a bit uglier and way more space-wasting.

It also has a severe focus on social networking and with the likes of Twitter and Facebook around, there is definitely a market!
