No More Than 10 Days To Release Critical Patch

By | August 8, 2007 | 2 Comments

“Ten Fuc*ing Days”. That’s what Mozilla said.

That’s right, they’ve said that they can release any critical patch within 10 days or faster. Firefox 2.0.0.6 was released even faster than 10 days (after security flaws were discovered). So they are not just using some tricks (or do they?), it’s already proven, we will see how fast they will release next one.

In my point of view, before using such statements they should also fix other security vulnerabilities. Even if they are not the most critical ones.

2007 July Browsers Market Share Results

By | August 1, 2007 | 2 Comments

It’s about time. Right, new market share results. See June results here.

Shall we begin?

Internet Explorer market share keeps growing. From 78.84% to 78.98% (0.14% increase). Wonder if it will reach 80% or not.

In the previous month Firefox increased it’s market share by 0.01%. However, this month they have lost a bit of it. From 14.55% to 14.37% (0.18% decrease).

And how’s Safari doing? Very well I guess. In the previous month Safari lost some market share, but with an iPhone and other stuff they managed to increase their market share. From 4.49% to 4.56% (0.07% increase).

Last month Opera managed to reach highest it’s market share ever (0.91%). But this month Opera lost some of it. From 0.91% to 0.89% (0.02% decrease).

Netscape browser keeps losing it’s market share. From 0.78% to 0.75% (0.03% decrease). Last month lost some too.

And yes, Opera Mini continues growing. From 0.21% to 0.24% (0.03% increase).

Here’s a graph of current browsers market share. Thanks to HitsLink.

Do You Like Your Web Browser? Show Us How You Like It

By | July 30, 2007 | 0 Comments

Web browsers won’t be so popular without their greatest fans, spreading the word all over the world. So how about we have a fans section, where you could send pictures and/or photos with your favorite web browser. Do you have a poster in your bedroom with Internet Explorer logo? Take a picture and send it to my email, we will publish it here. Do you have some stickers with Safari logo on your laptop? Again, take a picture and send it to my email. Or maybe you have just bought new Firefox or Opera T-Shirts? Take a picture and send that too.

Email: myATfavbrowser.com

Sorry, no prizes (unless you want to give them :-)) But as long as you will send fans stuff, I will keep posting them here.

Still No Browser Of The Month

By | July 27, 2007 | 4 Comments

Well… It’s August soon… We still don’t have “Browser of the Month”, as there are no new (not minor) web browsers releases and/or updates. And I don’t want to review all of them now, because there are plenty of reviews already, like Firefox vs IE7 vs Opera 9, etc…

I have no idea when Opera 9.5 goes public and then final. Firefox 3 Final should be released somewhere in November, but that’s really long time to wait (yea… IE8 will be released someday…). So I am just waiting for updates as you do too…

My “5 Things I’d Like To See In Opera” List

By | July 19, 2007 | 9 Comments

Post after post today, hope you like to read a lot.

Daniel Goldman tagged me in his “Blog tag: 5 things I’d like to see in Opera” post, so I couldn’t miss that. Here you go, my 5 things I’d like to see in Opera list:

1. Integrated inline spell check. This is probably one of the best features to have.
2. Web developer’s toolbar. I’ve actually noticed that more web developers are tend to use Firefox more than Opera. Since it is impossible to install Google, Alexa toolbar, I wish Opera team would make a toolbar where I would be able to see: Google PageRank, Alexa Rank and other great things (no widgets, please).
3. Smart auto update, something like Firefox got. You are surfing the web and then boom, a pleasant message: your update is ready to be installed.
4. More powerful RSS feeds reader. I would like to have a “Trash Can” or at least an “Undo” feature; sometimes I delete important news and can’t use CTRL+Z to get them back. Also: a button to check all the subscribed feeds at once (any time).
5. Actually I have 2 more wishes: Would like be able to delete multiple passwords in “saved passwords list” also an ability to add more “auto-complete” forms.

I was thinking to suggest a small arrow Arrowwhere the “Back” button is so I can see my previous visited pages and chose the one where I would like to come back. However, I can do that already by clicking on a button and holding for a few seconds. Didn’t knew about that.

5 to tag: Rowan Mulder, Paulius Jačionis, Ramūnas, Andy Beal, Rand Fishkin.

Here you go.

Once you’ve been tagged by someone, share your list (on your blog) of 5 things you’d like to see in Opera, and then tag up to 5 other people who will then post their own lists and tag up to 5 more people.

Mozilla Based Browser For Nokia N800 – Maemo

By | July 19, 2007 | 0 Comments

Seems everyone loves mobile market now. More and more money are being spent for mobile applications development and advertising.

First we had Opera Mini (works with any mobile phone) and Opera Mobile, then Safari for iPhone and now… Maemo for Nokia N800.

Now… Before telling that Opera Mini or Opera Mobile is the best please continue reading. It might be the best for any other phone, but when mobile browser is being developed for only one or two models it actually gives you more freedom, developers can integrate more features and make it as much powerful as possible (depends on the phone).

So what we have here is a Mozilla based browser for Nokia N800. Meet the “Maemo”.

Here are some interesting quotes about it.

Sharing the same key components than Firefox, this new browser engine has the capability to deliver advanced web technologies inside a pocketable form factor. The newest internet services will function on the Nokia N800, thanks to best-of-breed open standards support including full-AJAX, and integrated Adobe Flash 9. This also allows the creation of add-on’s to personalize the browsing experience.

After installation the Mozilla based browser engine will be set as default. The user interface of the open browser engine and the official Opera browser is the same, you will notice the difference in the functionality and behavior. Users can switch back to the official Opera browser through the “Advanced” option in the browser application menu. You can also deinstall the open browser from Application Manager at any time, without loosing bookmarks or other settings made for Opera.

Yes, this browser supports full AJAX, RSS feeds and much more.

Opera 9 Bug – Inaccessible Links

By | July 18, 2007 | 5 Comments

It seems that there is one very old bug in Opera browser (tried with Opera 9.21 and 9.22 Beta as well). Sometimes it is impossible to navigate when reading post, for example this one as “Netscape Navigator 9 Beta 2 – Impressions Firefox 2.0.0.5 Released” links are unclickable. It doesn’t happen always, althought it’s really a bug and not this site fault, see this prove, impossible to click for me when using Opera.

Reported: October 2006, 21:39:24

I’ve noticed this long time ago, actually right after I’ve made this blog public, thats why I’ve just added “Home Page” in the top so Opera users could navigate. Hope it will be fixed soon as it’s annoying one.

Netscape Navigator 9 Beta 2 – Impressions

By | July 14, 2007 | 6 Comments

Yesterday I’ve tried Netscape Navigator 9 Beta 2.

I was thinking to write much more about this web browser, but after using it for a while, it really makes not much point to do that. Why? Well… Let me begin then.

Netscape Navigator 9 Beta 2 Screenshot

I’ve launched Netscape Navigator Beta 2 and thought that its interface is not very good as I don’t like green color, but it’s just me.

The more I used it, the more I felt it’s actually a Firefox (yes, I know that this browser is Firefox based, but that’s not the main point).

Netscape Navigator 9 Beta 2 Screenshot

I actually see even no point to use this browser, unless you are hardly using Netscape.com. Usually when I am trying new browser I want some new features which makes that browser special and my favorite one, and Netscape Navigator is just another Firefox clone.

If you like Firefox, use Firefox, if you don’t like Firefox, you won’t like Netscape Navigator 9 too. If you are using Netscape.com very often, try it, you might actually like Netscape Navigator more than any other browser.

Not really much to say I guess.

Netscape Navigator 9 Beta 2 Released

By | July 13, 2007 | 0 Comments

Netscape Navigator team just released a brand new Netscape Navigator 9 version: beta 2.

According to their blog, Beta 2 fixes some bugs and ads new features.

Beta 2 addresses the following issues that appeared in Beta 1:
Added URL as a tooltip to Linkpad entries
Added “Reload” to the FAS and Tracker sidebar context menus
Closing the last tab will now close the browser window
Fixed the CFBundleSignature on the Mac DMG
Fixed bug when removing the location bar while customizing the toolbar
Various fixes to in-browser voting
Various performance fixes

I have to admit, haven’t really ever tried Netscape Navigator 9, but downloading it now.

You may also want to download it here.

What I’ve found interesting in Navigator 9? Well… Here are some interesting features:

Navigator will automatically correct common typos made in Web addresses.
Examples: .cmo => .com, htp:// => http://, netscape,com => netscape.com

Install any Firefox 2-compatible extension.

I will write about this release more, just have to use it for at least few hours first.
