Hey, Apple, Stop Bullsh*ting People

Well, it seems like Apple’s new web browser “marketing campaign” is most of the time based on lies. Remember old and inaccurate Safari vs. Internet Explorer vs. Firefox vs. Opera graph on their page?
So what about Safari 4? Has anything changed? Well, let’s take a look:

Safari is the first – and only – web browser to pass Acid 3
Wrong.

The first browser to feature a built-in RSS reader
Wrong.

Safari was the first popular browser to build a search field into its user interface.
Wrong.

Safari was the first browser to automatically recognize websites that use custom fonts and download them as needed.

    Should Apple have lied about what their browser did first? No, they shouldn’t have. However, this does not change the fact that Safari 4 is an excellent browser.

    If by “excellent” you mean not crappy like Internet Explorer, then you are correct. But Safari is nowhere near as excellent as Firefox, both in terms of stability and security. AND features too.

    Would you mind pointing out a stable release (for users) of another browser that passes ACID3?

    Three things:
    1) Safari is not a Chrome replica; Chrome is a Safari replica. Safari has been around a lot longer than Chrome.

    2) If you are going to bash safari, at least cite your sources or tell us of a browser that is better in those fields. If you don’t do that, you are simply a lying bass turd.

    3) I don’t see Internet Explorer working as fast, as efficiantly or as cleanly as safari. Please note that Safari does not have that huge, thick toolbar at the top. The little tabs should you choose to use them, are 1/3 of the size of IE tabs, and they disappear if you dont want them. The tab bar on IE is always there. Not to mention the sucky way it interprits CSS. My website works on all browsers, even the obscure and little-known, except for IE.

    Well, no web browser at all is better than Internet Explorer :-)

    However, I’d have to argue against Firefox’s stability. While using Firefox, crashes were fairly frequent, usually on really media heavy websites (ex: YouTube). Conversely, I have not had Safari 4 crash yet.

    Actually, that reminds me of my first experience with Firefox, in the form of Firefox 2 on Windows ME. I loved it at first, but then YouTube stopped working (It would start to load a video, then the browser would crash). I eventually went back to IE 5.

    I can’t argue for security for either browser, I usually stick to websites I’m familiar with.

    On the subject of features, this seems to be a matter of personal preference. Add-ons are not the world to me, and I only used two add-ons on Firefox: Brief, for feed reading, and Foxmarks, for bookmark syncing. Both of those I can easily do without. I frequently use the coverflow-style history searching in Safari 4, and love the Top Sites page (I use it instead of a home page).

    “Another”? That would imply that Safari 4 is a stable browser, which isn’t. That’s what the beta is there for.

    Chrome 2.0b and Opera 10a1 both pass acid3. What apple should’ve said was that their team was the first one to create an engine that passed acid3, but Opera was a close second (in fact, opera passed it first but only because of a bug, and they had to correct it). Safari 4b is the first apple browser to actually pass acid3, and it’s not the first ever. Its engine was the first (but so was chrome’s, because it’s the same engine), but that means nothing.

    Safari 3 was released before Chrome, but Safari 4 is a Chrome clone because it looks and acts like Chrome (tab handling, top sites, etc.), and was released after Chrome.

    Opera 10 alpha passed the acid 3 test b4 any other browser, i dont think safari is a good browser. I prefer Opera

    It’s clearly obvious that you “idiots” on this website don’t know much about Safari or Apple. And to the person who said Safari was a Chrome clone — I have two words for you: EPIC FAIL.

    Post something with facts next time, Fav Browser guys. You’re no better than Apple, “bullsh*ting people.”

    Think back. Everything that Apple has ever done comes with a godly amount of sensational, “ignore the facts” amount of brilliant PR. General public can not tell fact from fiction, specially when it comes in a shinny package.
