Firefox 4: 5 Million Downloads in 24 Hours

Just last week, Microsoft has announced that Internet Explorer 9 has been downloaded 2.35 million times in the first 24 hours.

Well, it looks like Mozilla has doubled the numbers with 5 million Firefox 4 downloads in the same time period and has now passed 7 million downloads mark.

Firefox 3 on the other hand did even better and was downloaded more than 8 million times.

It’s good to hear that Firefox is still doing better than Internet Explorer. Some users actually seem to have gone back to Internet Explorer…

Very good competition!! Very good job.
But somehow I like the Opera UI better than Firefox UI. Wondering why people don’t use Opera, not all the firefox users have extensions install (atleast all my friends).

  3. Pierre says:

5 millions ? Only 1.25% of this user base ? Not really awesome.
6 millions of Opera 11 was downloaded in the same delay, for an estimated user base of only 60 millions !

Microsoft is always a better reference for Mozilla :-]

so when do you think mozilla will the rest of its versions considering they released FF4?

  5. Cousin333 says:

Don’t forget, that IE9 is Vista/7 only, while FF4 is also available for XP, Mac and Linux. By the way: I consider not breaking the record of FF3 as a failure for FF. More people uses the Internet now, and there are also more FF users. But not by much, F seemed to be pretty stagnant in the last year as opposed to previous years.

  6. Quest says:

It’s based on ayax. I mean they calculated (or dreamt) an inrease rate and they put it in the website without real update. Epic fail.

There is a grammar error in this sentence.
“Just last week, Microsoft has announced that Internet Explorer 9 has been downloaded 2.35 million times in the first 24 hours.” It should be stated as had been downloaded. Watch the verb consistencies in the sentence structure.

I hope Firefox 4 manages to steal some market share from Safari and especially Internet Explorer. :]

    • greenbutter says:

why safari? i understand IE, but i dont belive that safari doesnt pose any threat to FF. FF is already widely known and popular.
