Beware Of The Windows 8 UX Pack 2.0 Malware

Beware Of The Windows 8 UX Pack 2.0 MalwareRecently, an application called Windows 8 UX Pack 2.0 was released, designed to make your OS look like Windows 8.

If you are as excited as some people are, then downloading it is a no brainer. However, be warned:

After installing and uninstalling the software (did not work for me), I have noticed that it has hijacked my web browsers settings with no warning. Not just Microsoft’s Internet Explorer’s, but also Mozilla’s Firefox and Opera’s (Chrome was not touched).

Instead of using the last tab session, 3 out of 4 web browsers would now have a setting changed to load the home page, which is set to the (presumably) author’s web site.

Turns out, you can’t even trust the “tested for malware” logos on some of the most popular download networks.

Ahh Vygantas (If not the other guy).

I hope you learnt your lesson.

And to others do not download from Brothersoft

Softpedia clearly marks this as adware with a warning that says “Offers to change the homepage for web browsers installed in the system”. I’m guessing the author of this article opted in for the change in homepage or blindly clicked on each “next” button during the install.

So true. I tried it myself today and it didn’t force any changes on my system. There is the option to keep your current homepage, so I guess someone needs to pay more attention when clicking Next Next Next Yes during installations ;)

I believe “the other guy” is quite innocent in this scenario. :P
