To sum it up:

They Don’t Know What a Browser Is

They Are Afraid Of Change
They Thought the Upgrade Notice from Windows Was a Pop-Up Ad
They Don’t Care About Having a “Good Internet Experience”

25.5 % of our site visitors are using Internet Explorer:
Msie 8.0 – 1.7 %
Msie 7.0 – 15.9 %
Msie 6.0 – 7.5 %

The main reason, I think, is they don’t like themselves. They think “why do it or have it better? It’s only the internet, who cares?”.

What kind of self-respecting person even uses IE?

(today I’m feeling a lot of hate against IE :P )

I wonder… do the same reasons apply to IE 5.0.

The only thing that is as irritating as IE is “user-agent detection”

  3. Fyrd says:

    Other reasons:

    – They’re stuck using IE6 at their company that can’t be bothered to upgrade, or won’t upgrade since their intranet website only works in IE6

    – They’ve tried IE7, but uninstalled it and went back to using IE6 because they didn’t like the interface

    – They’re stuck on Windows 98/2000, and are not able to upgrade to IE7

I hate IE6 users too, when i see someone using IE6 i start telling that person to upgrade, and you are right those are the reasons they don’t upgrade.

I saw that they usually say that they had no idea there is any other browser, or if they did why should they change when the 4 websites they visit work great on IE6 they say. :))
I did a website http://crashie.ajaxmasters.com to let people know about the problems ie6 has and you can crash ie by clicking a button. :))
