Adobe Promotes Google Chrome

Now here is something interesting I noticed today.

When downloading the latest stable version of the Adobe Flash Player, a checkbox appeared, offering me to install Google Chrome as well.

However, if you hit F5 several times, it will suggest you a different kind of software, making us wonder, how much such promotion cost for the Google (if any?).

There is a new build of Adobe Flash Player floating around at adobe.labs.com, which brings one important feature: a native 64 bit support. All we have to do now is wait for companies other than Microsoft to release an official 64 bit build of their web browser.

There is some good news floating around about the future of web browsers. As of today, web browsers rely on native code plugins to display PDF files, like Adobe’s PDF reader or Foxit reader. However, this is about to change.

Fortunately for all of us, the web is quickly embracing the new technologies, and thanks to that, guys at pdf.js team plan to create a Firefox extension aka a built in PDF reader which uses HTML5 to render the documents.

Chrome Hack Denied By Google Engineers

As reported previously by FavBrowser, Google Chrome’s sandbox has allegedly been hacked. Nevertheless, several security engineers over at Google have now denied this, countering claims that a security company discovered a vulnerability in Chrome that could let attackers hijack Windows PCs running the browser.

The bug that security company Vupen exploited to hack Chrome was in Adobe’s Flash which comes bundled with Chrome, not in Chrome itself, said the engineers. A Google spokesman said that investigation was still ongoing, but the engineers decided to make themselves heard.

Convert Flash to HTML5

Convert Flash to HTML5Adobe has released an experimental technology codenamed Wallaby which is designed to convert Flash (FLA) to HTML files.

Although not all features are yet supported, it’s a welcomed step forward.

Wallaby is free to use, so if you want to give it a try, here is a download link.

Gmail Now Uses Chrome’s Built-In Viewer To Open PDFs

Users of Google Chrome can now use the built-in PDF viewer instead of Google Docs to view PDF’s from Gmail. As a result, PDF files now open noticeably quicker as well as look more pleasing to the eye and can be viewed by clicking “View” next to an attachment.

PDF attachments will continue to open via Google Docs viewer when in Gmail, if you are not using Google Chrome or have the PDF viewer plug-in disabled.

As for now, Adobe Reader’s plug-in is not yet compatible with this feature.

Yesterday, Adobe has released a Beta version of Flash Player 10.2 bringing some nice enhancements, including: hardware acceleration support.

A new method for video playback in Flash Player will allow developers to leverage complete hardware acceleration of the video rendering pipeline, enabling best-in-class playback performance. Stage Video can dramatically decrease processor usage and enables higher frame rates, reduced memory usage, and greater pixel fidelity and quality.

64-Bit Flash Player for Windows, Mac and Linux

64-Bit Flash Player for Windows, Mac and LinuxGood news, everyone, Adobe has just released a preview build of 64-bit Flash Player for Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.

Known issues:
– Video playback issues may appear on certain websites such as Hulu.com, Audi.co.uk, and nbc.com.
– Mouse interactivity in the Settings UI dialog does not work using Internet Explorer 9. Keyboard navigation works as expected. Please pardon our dust.
– Internet Explorer 9 is not yet final. As such, Adobe is continuing to work with Microsoft to resolve critical issues before the final release of Internet Explorer 9.
– This release will not receive automatic update notifications, and users will need to manually uninstall this preview before installing a standard shipping release of Flash Player

We are one step closer to 64-bit mainstream web browsers!
