YouTube Crashing In Chrome? Here’s How To Fix That

Over the course of last few last days, a huge amount of Google Chrome users have started experiencing crashes when surfing YouTutbe web site. While the search giant is presumably working on a way to fix that, here is what you can do to stop crashes from happening again:

- Right click on the video
- Click “Stop Downloading” before you close the tab
- Job done

Opera: Go Back To Previous Page Without Reloading It

If for one reason or another you would like to go back to the previous page without waiting for it to reload, here is a setting to speed up your browsing experience:

Paste the following code to your address bar
opera:config#History%20Navigation%20Mode
Set “History Navigation Mode” to 3
Done.

Opera: How To Backup Opera Mail, RSS Feeds, Bookmarks, Passwords And Other Data

It’s always important to backup your data, especially when it comes to your web browser. Thankfully, there are a couple of tools to do that, from cloud based servers to local ones. Here’s how you can backup Opera to your USB Flash drive or just a regular HDD:

- Download FavBackup

- Menu: Backup > Opera

- Select the data you want to backup (if you want to backup all profiles feel free to use a Full Backup feature):

Bookmarks
Certificate data
Contacts
Cookies
History
Keyboard configuration
Mail and RSS feeds
Menu configuration
Mouse configuration
Notes
Preferences
Sessions
Skins
Toolbar configuration
Visited links
Wand data (passwords)
Widgets and extensions

- Select backup location
- Select profile
- Click “Next” button
- Wait for it to finish and check backup location. In order to restore backup, click on the “Restore” menu and follow same instructions.

Internet Explorer: Disable Facebook News Ticker

Some time ago, we wrote on how to disable the Facebook news ticker in Google Chrome. Turns out, you can do that on IE9 as well.

Here is how:

Install this to the IE9 registry.
Install IE7Pro.
Restart IE9 and press the alt key.
Tools > IE7Pro preferences.
Modules > uncheck everything but scripts & plugins.
Base settings > uncheck everything.
Mouse settings > uncheck everything.
Delete all the entries under URL alias and search.
In plugins, check “enable plugins”.
In user scripts, check “enable user scripts”.
Restart IE9
If a toolbar was installed with IE7Pro, click the large X to disable it, and, when prompted, click only Grab and Drag. BHO and Preferences should not be clicked. Click disable.
Go to this script and, on the right-hand side, click install. Do the same in the pop-up window.
Close IE9 and reopen it and, when you access Facebook, a big chat pane should appear in place of the ticker.

Job done.

November, 2011: Google Chrome Share Up; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera – Down

With just one month left before the end of 2011, it’s time to check the latest stats for the browsers market share.

Falling below 50% last time, Internet Explorer is now down from 49.58% to 48.95% (0.63 point decrease).

Despite regaining some of its market share on October, Firefox is nearing towards 20% level, down from 21.20% to 20.58% (0.62 point decrease).

Soon to cross paths with Firefox, Google Chrome continues its dominant uptrend, up from 16.59% to 16.90% (0.31 point increase).

Gaining market share for many months, this time Safari has lost some of it, climbing down from 8.54% to 8.35% (0.19 point decrease).

Just like Firefox, it looks like Opera is stuck in the never ending downtrend as its share has also decreased from 1.49% to 1.45% (0.04 point decrease).

Google Chrome: Disable Facebook News Ticker

If you are not a big fan of recently introduced Facebook News Ticker feature, then here is a simple way to remove it.

Arik Fraimovich has created a Google Chrome extension which does exactly that: removes the Facebook news ticker.

Blurry Text In Firefox or Internet Explorer?

Due to a Hardware Acceleration related issue, some users might see blurred text in Firefox or IE web browsers. Turns out, there are a few ways to fix that.

1. Download Windows Updates (KB2545698) for Windows 7, Vista or Server 2008
- Follow the setup instructions

2. Disable Hardware Acceleration in Firefox

- Firefox Menu > Options > Advanced
- Uncheck the “Use hardware acceleration when available” box
- Done

3. Disable Hardware Acceleration in Internet Explorer

- Click on the gear icon > Internet Options > Advanced
- Check the “Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering” box
- Done

Internet Explorer Falls Below 50% Market Share Mark

Months and months after the continuous Internet Explorer’s market share decline, Microsoft’s web browser has finally breached the 50% mark and now sits at the 49.58%, down from 50.97% (1.39 point decrease).

As far as other web browsers go, it looks like Firefox is going to the opposite direction, as its market share has increase by 0.14 point, up from 21.06% to 21.20%.

Google Chrome continues its uptrend and is now up by another 1.42 point, increasing its share from 15.17% 16.59%. If growth continues, we should see it approaching 20% mark in the second quarter of 2012.

Thanks to Apple’s handheld device sales, Safari is on the roll with a 0.51 point increase in the market share, up from 8.03% to 8.54%.

Just like Internet Explorer, Opera’s market share continues to suffer as it now reached January, 2010 levels, down from 1.58%, 1.49%, (0.09 point decrease).

So here you have it folks, with the exception of Firefox, there aren’t really any changes in the overall trend.
