Safari lost some market share this time as well. From 5.82% to 5.81% (0.01% decrease).

The funny thing about Netscape Navigator is that they’ve already announced the end of this browser support. However, with lots of attention, its market share increased by 0.07%, from 0.61% to 0.68%.

After falling 0.01% last time, Opera Mini increased its market share by same 0.01%, from 0.03% to 0.04%.

Web browsers developers are trying to make files download process as good as possible. When Internet Explorer was launched, files download process was not so user friendly, lots of corrupted files and unstable download speed (actually, IE team haven’t changed anything yet). More and more people downloaded additional programs for faster and better files download experience. Since then, other web browsers developers learned from Internet Explorer mistakes and started to add additional features into web browsers integrated download managers. One of the most important features was an ability to resume downloads.

While web browsers still can’t replace internet download accelerators (as it’s a web browser and not download manager), there are a few features, which would stop most of the people from using them in the future:

1. An ability to change downloadable file URL.
2. An ability to add and remove downloadable file types.
3. Files split in smaller parts.
4. Scheduler.
5. Speed limit.

As web browsers now are becoming more than just an application to surf the internet, it’s important to understand that everyone is always downloading something. This is an inseparable part of rich internet experience (which web browsers should provide).

What do you think about web browsers download managers? Should they be improved?

However, some time ago AOL announced that they will stop Netscape Navigator support after February 1’st… Well, things changed a bit, they’ve decided to “extend” its support for one more month (March 1’st).

As it says in their blog post:

Mozilla, Flock and AOL are working together to provide tools to ease the migration of existing Netscape browser users to our recommended Flock and Firefox alternatives. Both Flock and Firefox are built on the same Mozilla Firefox codebase.

There will be an update made available for Netscape 9 users through the established Netscape browser update feature that will streamline the process of choosing from these two great browser alternatives.

See November stats here.
As you will see in this graph, there are some noticeable changes for the Opera web browsers. Not sure why, but both of them (Opera and Opera Mini) got slightly different values than they should. It’s the second month, so not sure if it’s a bug. However, we have keep going and post what we know.

Yet another bad month for the Internet Explorer. This time it felt from 77.35% to 76.04% (1.31% decrease).

Firefox market share continues growing and might reach 20% very soon, they have increased its market share by 0.79%: from 16.01% to 16.80%.

With more and more iPhones being sold, Safari is surely increasing its market share, not a bad month I guess, from 5.14% to 5.59% (0.45% increase).

Despite the end of Netscape Navigator support, it managed to increase its market share as well, from 0.60% to 0.66% (0.06% increase).

Opera web browser slightly lost its market share this time, from 0.65% to 0.64% (0.01% decrease).

And not a big surprise, Opera Mini keeps growing, this time from 0.03% to 0.04% (0.01% increase).

Here’s a graph of current browsers market share. Thanks to HitsLink.

As this web browser is really similar to Firefox, most of the current Netscape Navigator users will probably move to Firefox.

If you are using Navigator and would like to know more about migrating from it to Firefox, there’s a nice tutorial called “Migrating from Netscape to Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird” in their blog. Hope you will find it useful.

Don’t forget that there are also other free alternatives: Internet Explorer 7 (not recommended), Safari, Opera and more.
