How to get rid of IE6Although a new version of Internet Explorer has been launched few days ago, many people are still unaware of it and keep using IE6. As a result, web developers are forced to use specific (IE only) stylesheets and hacks.

Staringispolite, a twitter user has created a Google code project called sevenup. Its code (1KB only) displays an informative message to IE6 users asking them to upgrade.

The following movement was originally started by Google and Norway, and as staringispolite said: My general hatred for that browser we all know so, so well”.

Norway Sites Urges Internet Explorer 6 Users to Upgrade

Trygve Lie is reporting a small revolution in Norway. Apparently, Finn.no has placed a small text box which recommends old IE6 users to upgrade their browser to a newer one and asked other webmasters do the same.

The ad which is visible to Internet Explorer 6 users only today has also appeared in the Norway’s largest web site vg.no. Api.no plans to put the same message box to about 60 online newspapers front pages as well. Continue Reading

Got Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) and Gmail Issues? Forget them.Google + Microsoft? Yes. Looks like two giants co-operated (which is great). Apparently, Google and Microsoft IE engineers were working together in order to make Gmail more IE6 compatible.

As it says in blog, Microsoft released a critical update to their JavaScript implementation that fixed a performance problem with how the script engine allocates and frees memory. Continue Reading
