Say Good Bye to Firefox 2 Phishing Protection
According to Mozilla Developer Center, phishing protection will no longer work on Firefox 2 as Google is turning off this feature.
The only way to continue using this feature on Firefox is to download Firefox 3 and update your web browser.
Browsers are Hot Again
TechCrunch published an interesting article on the recent “Browsers are Hot Again!” panel. Representatives from Microsoft, Google, Mozilla and Opera were invited.
Here is an excerpt from the article on their vision:
An audience question asked each of the panelists to describe the essence of each browser. The responses were varied. Microsoft’s Hachamovitch said his team starts with looking at what the user wants and building from there (and pointed to IE 8’s impressive feature list). Krogh from Opera said they wanted to supply a standards compliant browser for literally any Internet connected device. Google’s Pichal said speed (of javascript) was their primary goal (Hachamovitch then dubbed him “Mr. Speed” in a later comment). Mozilla’s Shaver said Firefox was about “putting the web first,” and creating a standards-compliant browser in as many languages as possible to ensure that no one was left out of the Internet.
P.S. Internet Explorer 8 RC is going to be released within few weeks.
Mozilla Drops Google in Firefox 3.1 and Tries Yandex
It looks like Mozilla is trying some other players as well. As for now, Firefox default search engine for Russian language users will be Yandex instead of everyone’s beloved Google.
According to research studies conducted by TNS, FOM, and Comcon, Yandex is the largest resource and largest search engine in Russian Internet, based on the audience size and internet penetration. Continue Reading
Chrome 2.0 Development Preview
Google has unveiled Chrome 2.0 in the developer channel (like Mozilla Minefields) on Thursday; some of the new features are:
• Support for gradients, reflections and masks
• Faster rendering enhancements
• New user interface features
• Augmented extensibility like user scripting
• Edge Docking
• Full page zoom
• Form autocompletion
• Support for importing (but not synchronizing) Google Bookmarks
• Middle-click drag scrolling

Mozilla’s and Google Relations Gets Complicated
According to Mozilla’s CEO John Lilly, the things between Mozilla and Google became bit more complicated since the launch of Chrome.
“We have a fine and reasonable relationship,” John Lilly, Mozilla’s CEO, said in an interview last week. “But I’d be lying if I said that things weren’t more complicated than they used to be.”
Of course, when Google supplies 88% of the Mozilla’s revenue, word complicated fits here perfectly.

Google is Wise, Chrome Updates Silently

Here is a great way to make sure that all of your software users are using the latest stable release, which usually fixes security issues and various bugs discovered: silent updates.

It looks like the folks at Google turned on the automatic (silent) update for Chrome beta users today. They should have all of their users on the latest version in just a few days.
