Skyfire Submitted to Apple’s App Store

Just as expected, Skyfire Team has submitted their mobile web browser into Apple’s App store and is awaiting approval.

If Apple approves the app, Skyfire would allow iPhone/iPad users to enjoy Flash content that is being transcoded into HTML5 via company servers.

According to press release, Skyfire Team followed Apple guidelines, including the use of a WebKit browser core shared with Safari, and h.264 adaptive streaming.

Safari Patches Address Book Bug, Activates Extensions

Today, Apple has released two web browser updates: Safari 5.0.1 and 4.1.1 that fix AutoFill security vulnerability reported back in June.

In addition to stability improvements and other bug fixes, version numbered 5.0.1 activates extensions that were reveled within the first Safari 5 release.

Critical Safari Vulnerability Discovered

There appears to be a major security hole in Safari 4 and 5 web browsers. A simple JavaScript code can scan autofill data and easily steal your contacts names (first and last), work place, city, state and even email addresses.

The good news:

1. It’s not possible to scan numbers; therefore, phone numbers and street addresses will not be obtained.
2. This trick does not work in Windows machines (not confirmed).
3. Vulnerability was reported to Apple more than a month ago.
4. You can prevent this from happening.

Firefox Home App Approved by Apple

Few weeks ago, Mozilla has submitted Firefox Home to Apple’s App Store and today, it was finally approved.

Here is how to get started (as from blog.mozilla.com):

- Install Firefox Sync, a free add-on for Firefox, on your desktop.
- Restart Firefox and follow prompts to create an account with both a password and a secret phrase.
- Go the App Store on your iPhone and search for “Firefox Home” or install it directly from iTunes.
- Launch Firefox Home on your iPhone. You’ll be prompted to enter your Firefox Sync account info. Enter your username, password and Secret Phrase and tap “Done.”
- Enjoy!

Firefox Home Submitted to Apple App Store

It looks like Mozilla has finally finished Firefox Home application and submitted it to Apple’s App Store. Pricing was revealed as well: it’s totally free.

As we wrote earlier, Firefox Home is a simple iPhone application (based on Weave Sync), that allows iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad users to access their Firefox browsing history, bookmarks and tabs from their most recent browsing session.

Apple Fixes Few Google Chrome Bugs

Few days ago, Google has released a new stable version of Chrome: 5.0.375.70.

What’s interesting about this update is the fact that Apple has actually fixed 2 of Google Chrome security vulnerabilities:

It also appears that Google is occasionally rewarding people, who fix critical bugs, for instance:

However, according to TechCrunch, Apple did not receive any cash. What a tremendous loss for a multi-billion company.

Safari 5 Plausible Features

If MacGeneration rumors are true, Apple will unveil Safari 5 web browser tomorrow at WWDC 2010.

Some key features of Safari 5 include:

• Improved Performance: Safari 5 executes JavaScript up to 25% faster than Safari 4. Better page caching and DNS prefetching speed up browsing.
• Improved HTML5 support: Safari supports over a dozen new HTML5 features including Geolocation, full screen for HTML5 video, closed caption for HTML5 video, new sectioning elements (article, aside footer, header, hgroup, nav and section), HTML5, AJAX History, EventSource, WebSocket, HTML 5 draggable attribute, HTML 5 forms validation, and HTML 5 Ruby.
• Hardware Acceleration for Windows: Use the power of the computer’s graphics processor to smoothly display media and effects on PC, as well as Mac.
• Safari Developer Tools: A new Timeline Panel in the Web Inspector shows how Safari interacts with a web site and identifies areas for optimization. New keyboard shortcuts make it aster to switch between panels.
