July, 2011: Google Chrome, Safari Share Up; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera – Down
It’s August already as we look at the July’s web browser market share numbers. As you will see from the stats below, this month was awful for everyone but WebKit.
Internet Explorer is first in our list and there are no surprises here. It has lost some of its market share again, down from 53.68% to 52.71% (0.97 point decrease).
Firefox 5 did not change the situation for Mozilla as its browser market share continues to grind lower, down from 21.67% to 21.47% (0.2 point decrease).

June, 2011: Google Chrome, Safari Share Up; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera – Down
As Internet Explorer is heading towards the 49% market share mark and Firefox continues its downtrend, we see interesting times are approaching indeed, but as for now, let’s focus on what had happened over the course of June.
No surprises here, Internet Explorer has lost some of its market share again, down from 54.27% to 53.68% (0.59 point decrease).

Mac OS X Lion Copies Chrome OS Browser Mode
The upcoming Mac OS X release from Apple is set to have a browser only mode, similar to one found in Chrome OS.
According to MacRumors, Lion lock screen includes an option to “Restart to Safari”, which basically just boots an operating system with the web browser only.
Furthermore, thanks to the new auto save feature, users can continue where they left after OS is switched back to the default mode.
Mac OS X Lion is set for July release and should be available in the Mac App Store for $29.99.
Apple Safari 5.1 Details
According to various reports, Apple has released a developer preview build of its upcoming, Safari 5.1 web browser.
Weighting a total of 45.3 MB, Safari 5.1 includes a variety of new features and improvements for both Windows and Mac OS X users.
The following release improves graphics performance on Windows, brings media caching for video and audio web apps, separates browser’s rendering process from its application process, which improves overall browser responsiveness and stability.

May, 2011: Firefox, Chrome, Safari Share Up; Internet Explorer, Opera – Down
It’s getting hot out there as the first month of summer starts and it’s time to yet again, report the top 5 web browsers market share numbers.
Internet Explorer moves closer and closer to the 50% share mark, this time it went down by 0.84 point, from 55.11% to 54.27%.
After previous month’s drop, this time Firefox has recovered some of its market share and went up by 0.08 point, from 21.63% to 21.71%.

April, 2011: Chrome, Safari Share Up; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera – Down
It’s May already as we look at the browsers market share results for the last month, April that is. Were there any drastic changes? Let’s find out.
It looks like Internet Explorer 9 is not yet good enough to prevent users from switching to other browsers as Microsoft lost market share yet again, down from 55.92% to 55.11% (0.81 point decrease).
Mozilla is facing similar situation as Firefox web browser market share decreased by 0.17 point, from 21.80% to 21.63%.

The European Commission, Browser Choice, and Fair Play
The company behind Maxthon has filed a petition, asking the European Commission to change the way it counts web browser market share on Windows PCs.
According to the official blog post, when it comes to the browser ballot screen, the EC should only count the number of Apple Safari users on Windows and not Mac OS machines, as it gives an unfair advantage to Apple and hurts smaller parties.
As you might know, market share determines the top 5 positions of the browser ballot screen and for the company that claims to be the world’s 5th largest web browser maker on Windows PCs, it’s kind of a big deal.

Yesterday, Apple has released a new build of its Safari web browser, bumping the version number to 5.0.4
Among various stability and compatibility improvements, Safari 5.0.4 for Windows also fixes HTML5 bug which might have prevented videos from playing on the YouTube web site.

Safari Adopts WebKit2
Back in April of 2010, Apple has announced a new version of WebKit framework which is essentially called WebKit2
Well, it looks like the upcoming Mac OS X Lion release will feature an improved Safari web browser that finally utilizes Webkit2.
One of the main framework goals is to utilize a split process model, so the web content would be placed into a separate process. As a result, bad plugin, tab etc. won’t crash the whole web browser.
This behavior is very similar to Chrome’s; however, as split process module is directly integrated into WebKit2 framework, other clients will be able to use it as well.
