<p>What started as optimistic first run with SunsSpider has left us confused. As in all but one benchmark, the 64 bit version of Opera 12 web browser scored less than its 32 bit sister.</p>
<p>We are not exactly sure why this has turned out the way it did, considering that every other web browser offered significant improvements when running a 64 bit flavor.

With the recent Flash Player release for 64 bit systems, it&#8217;s time to find out, how good (or not) 64-bit web browser really is.</p>
<p><strong>System:</strong><br />
Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.6 GHz<br />
4 GB RAM</p>
<p><strong>Software:</strong><br />
Windows 7<br />
Internet Explorer 9 Beta<br />
<span id="more-5281"></span><br />
<img class="size-full wp-image-5282 alignnone" title="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/internet_explorer_9_lower_is_better.png" alt="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" width="584" height="690" /><br />
See benchmark results in <a href="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ie92.gif">numbers here</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Combined results (50+ tests)</strong></p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-5283 alignnone" title="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/total_ms.png" alt="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" width="537" height="256" /><br />
<img class="size-full wp-image-5291 alignnone" title="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ie9.gif" alt="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" width="222" height="52" /></p>
<p>So here you have it, with the exception of few tests, Internet Explorer 9 (64 bit) pretty much destroys its 32 bit brother.

<p><strong>Known issues:</strong><br />
- Video playback issues may appear on certain websites such as Hulu.com, Audi.co.uk, and nbc.com.<br />
- Mouse interactivity in the Settings UI dialog does not work using Internet Explorer 9. Keyboard navigation works as expected. Please pardon our dust.<br />
- Internet Explorer 9 is not yet final. As such, Adobe is continuing to work with Microsoft to resolve critical issues before the final release of Internet Explorer 9.<br />
- This release will not receive automatic update notifications, and users will need to manually uninstall this preview before installing a standard shipping release of Flash Player</p>
<p>We are one step closer to 64-bit mainstream web browsers!</p>
<p><a href="http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/">Download</a>.</p>
