With the recent Flash Player release for 64 bit systems, it&#8217;s time to find out, how good (or not) 64-bit web browser really is.</p>
<p><strong>System:</strong><br />
Intel Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.6 GHz<br />
4 GB RAM</p>
<p><strong>Software:</strong><br />
Windows 7<br />
Internet Explorer 9 Beta<br />
<span id="more-5281"></span><br />
<img class="size-full wp-image-5282 alignnone" title="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/internet_explorer_9_lower_is_better.png" alt="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" width="584" height="690" /><br />
See benchmark results in <a href="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ie92.gif">numbers here</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Combined results (50+ tests)</strong></p>
<p><img class="size-full wp-image-5283 alignnone" title="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/total_ms.png" alt="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" width="537" height="256" /><br />
<img class="size-full wp-image-5291 alignnone" title="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ie9.gif" alt="Internet Explorer 9 32 bit (x86) vs. IE9 64 bit (x64)" width="222" height="52" /></p>
<p>So here you have it, with the exception of few tests, Internet Explorer 9 (64 bit) pretty much destroys its 32 bit brother.

But first, let’s check some benchmarks to see if 64bit Firefox has any performance advantages against Firefox 32bit. </p>
<p>3.0 (x86) vs 3.1 (x64)<span id="more-652"></span><br />
<img class="alignnone" title="Firefox 32 bit (x86) vs. Firefox 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/images/firefox-64bit-3.png" alt="" width="450" height="236" /><br />
Lower is better</p>
<p>Ubuntu 8.04 TLS on AMD Turion 64 1.8GHz<br />
<img class="alignnone" title="Firefox 32 bit (x86) vs. Firefox 64 bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/images/firefox-64bit-2.png" alt="" width="507" height="282" /><br />
Lower is better</p>
<p>15% faster JPEG decoding on Windows x64 with IJG&#8217;s JPEG library<br />
<img class="alignnone" title="Firefox 32bit (x86) vs. Firefox 64bit (x64)" src="http://www.favbrowser.com/images/firefox-64bit-1.png" alt="" width="400" height="100" /><br />
Lower is better</p>
<p>As you can see, 64 bit builds indeed has an advantage against 32 bit builds.</p>
