Over 1000 Opera Extensions

Slightly more than a year after announcing extensions, Opera’s add-ons directory has just surpassed the 1000 mark and is slowly edging towards the next milestone.

In addition to such announcement, Aleksander Aas, community manager at Opera Software, has unveiled that the new Opera’s API’s and features (as you might expect) are in development as well.

Unfortunately, no further details were revealed

I’m not super fan of these Extensions, I use Windows 7 Gadgets on desktop. But still good to know that there are developers outside still love Opera.

  2. Saex Conroy says:

if they were celebrating 10 000 extensions, thats another story, but 1000 .. pff

    • Shane Bundy says:

Just because Opera doesn’t need extensions as much as Chrome does…

      • Tiago Sá says:

Chrome doesn’t have extensions… Those are barely more than javascript applets…

        Firefox and Opera have extensions.

          I beg to differ.

Operas extensions pail in comparison to chromes.

          Try something before you comment.

Firefoxes extensions  are as usual overly bloated.

          • Shane Bundy says:

I’m more likely to use Chrome extensions because they’re less bloaty than Firefox, but at the same time Chrome is barebones anyway and needs other people to fill the gaps.
            (i.e. extension makers)

          • Saex Conroy says:

and sometimes that still aint enough

          • Tiago Sá says:

Less bloaty? To paraphrase Ichann, try something before you comment.

          • Shane Bundy says:

They’re small, but could be smaller.

And, believe it or not, I have actually tried Chrome extensions and all I can say about them is that they’re just add-on features that should of been in Chrome in the first place.

            Dont worry FF.

I have thoughtfully tested it and YES.

            It is BLOATY and *censored*

            :D

          • PC`EliTiST says:

Only Firefox’s extensions can fully integrate. This has a good and a bad side. If the extension is well build, it can become exactly like built-in. If the extension is bad-written, then you can have deeper problem. Chose wisely your extensions on Fx and you’ve a Full Native Fx with many built-in-like features.

Both, Chrome’s and Opera’s extensions don’t give many rights which means you can’t have such a good quality ones with whatever features you like.

        • Shane Bundy says:

The troll needed to understand Chrome needs them more, he probably couldn’t tell the difference. :p

You sound like you either have a twin or split personality disorder.

You are rational and completely childish the next.

How about you settle things inside your mind then we’ll talk

          • Shane Bundy says:

Saex is a known troll. I made that comment because I thought he was a Chrome fanboy.

          • Anonymous says:

What is this troll thing anyway?

The word has lost all meaning. Like n00b.

People these days refer to someone as a troll if they do not agree on a point or the person exposes a flaw.

They often get flamed for being a fanboy. What I find funny is that IRL, if you say visit a store and say I have a problem with this and this is better than that, then the sales assistant is NOT going to label you as a troll.

Same thing with n00b. It used to mean a person that is unwilling to learn and only wants items, help etc. Think of them as constant beggers.

Now it means the same thing as a newb or newbie.

I am guessing the media has done something to f this up

            /conspiracy.

Who needs 10,000 just makes it harder to find the good ones.
Opera’s extensions page is far better then Firefox’s much slicker & no need to close & restart the browser.
How many of those 10,000 extensions are quality must have that are not  already present in the default Opera or available as extensions.

      • Anonymous says:

…plus they aren’t made incompatible when you upgrade your browser every six weeks.

      • PC`EliTiST says:

I’m Fx user, but I’ve to agree. Also, generally, Mozilla’s Addons page is very bad designated. And they just re-designated the site… I don’t even understand how such a bad design found it’s way…. Generally, they’ve old, bad taste in design almost on everything.

If we take every link that leads to one of the many Mozilla’s sites, only this design I like by them: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/

I’ve been eagerly anticipating this milestone. I have well over a dozen extensions installed. I hope the extensions API is extended so more developers are motivated to write extensions for Opera or port their Firefox and/or Chrome extensions to Opera.

  4. Mikah says:

Only use a few , my favourite is Slim ScrollBar after disabling scroll bars in preferences it only shows when you scroll the page or when you move the mouse far right where the ordinary scroll bar would be.

  5. I still wont install more than 3 or 4, in Opera you barely need more than that.

  6. OP says:

I only have 4 extensions installed and since most of the internet browse are already built in opera

i dont want to have as many as 5+

seriosly, who the heck  needs an adblock plus when opera can do the same with its built in block content(learn how to block scripts in there..it is so much better)

    • Scorpion3003 says:

Sorry, but opera’s content blocker is nowhere as good as adblock plus. opera’s content blocker is still limited. maybe opera’s new api’s will allow the author of adblock plus to port it over to opera. Time will tell.

    • Screw ad-blocking, I dont care, no extension will provide a fully integrated mail-client rss reader.

  7. Armin says:

Still love Slim ScrollBar the most. Should be standard in Opera. :D https://addons.opera.com/en/addons/extensions/details/slim-scrollbar/

  8. Mikah says:

+1 for integrating it into Opera
