webkit stole opera’ OEM market

Actually, it’s Opera that dumped OEMs to go more for the major network operators. OEMs only lead to one time engineering revenue, then licensing. With operators, Opera not only gets money licenses, but also revenue sharing deals, and bigger contracts with more products involved.

Also, operators can tell phone manufacturers what browser to use. So OEMs will end up using Opera anyway :D

It’s more that Opera doesn’t have the resources to accept all these contracts that are flowing in. Opera has lots of contracts with major STB and TV manufacturers, though.

That’s because you aren’t paying attention. Opera is going straight to the major operators instead of OEMs.

But actually, some of Samsung’s new high-end handsets use Opera’s widgets and browser.

What are you talking about? They have been investing in desktop since the day the company was formed. Oh, wait, you think “adding features I don’t personally want” equals “not investing in desktop”? LOL. Have you any idea how many major contracts Opera’s widgets have brought them.

Flash works fine. As does Java. No one uses Silverlight.

and btw. they are a bit misleading about impact of strong currency. opera pays electricity bills in NOK, but buys hardware in usd. half of their staff lives in EU or is paid in EUR/USD anyway. this impact was there, but for sure it wasnt as big.

Ignorance is bliss. Most of Opera’s expenses are payroll expenses. Most of Opera’s staff is in Norway. Most of their expenses are in NOK.

The Windows ballot screen won’t be rolled out for real until mid-March, which gives them plenty of time to finish 10.5.

And they are not being misleading about currency. The NOK was amazingly weak a year ago, and amazingly strong now. Take away the currency effect, and Opera is growing very nicely.

Opera themselves are saying that most expenses are in NOK, and most revenue in USD and EUR. Maybe you should pay attention instead of making assumptions for once :D

adobe HAD opera as their rendering engine, now they use webkit. more and more mobile/tv/settopbox runtimes use webkit instead of opera engine. to be honest, i havent heard of any new presto implementation.

they wont make it to the ballot screen with polished 10.50. so they will waste oportunity their own complaint created. opera 10.10 isnt a worty contender
