Opera Launches Coast Web Browser

Dumbed down meets intuitive?

If you’ve been looking for a yet another iPad web browser then Coast by Opera might as well be something to consider. Designed specifically for touch, it aims to replace constant tapping on the screen with swipe gestures. The problem (as with the majority of such UI’s) is that these so called “intuitive” gestures are hard to figure out.

According to Opera, Coast represents web sites as apps (think a grid of icons) and they seem to be especially proud of the fact that these icons are larger than the ones used by Microsoft (tile images) or Apple (touch icons).

That’s pretty much it. I don’t really think that the “intuitive” UI will be enough for it to gain any traction whatsoever. Do you?

I’m really looking forward to this, quite interesting.

For too long, browsers have been treating themselves like rich document viewers. I hope Opera – yet again – changes the game.

Remember, we owe virtually all modern browser conventions to that company.
