Opera 12: Disable Search Suggestions

With the release of Opera 12, users can now enjoy search suggestions. However, if you are one of those people (myself included) who are not particularly happy about this change, here is a simple solution to disable already mentioned functionality:

– Type opera:config#UserPrefs|ShowSearchesInAddressfieldAutocompletion in the address bar.
– Uncheck the “Show Searches In Addressfield Autocompletion” checkbox.
– Reward yourself with a cookie, job well done.

Update: you can also disable search suggestions by going to:
– Menu (Alt) > Settings > Preferences (Alt+P) > “Search” tab
– Uncheck “Search suggestions enabled” box.

[Thanks, Shane Bundy]

i prefered the old system, suggestions only after typing “g “…

    • Yep, it’s annoying when you are typing some phrase from the bookmark into the address bar and it shows the search suggestions. Especially, when bookmarks aren’t even in top of the bar, but bottom.

Thank you, I also hate how they unilaterally removed the favicon on address bar, any way to get it back?

    • That’s true!

Users always recognize picture first and not text, that’s why MS use icons only for Windows 7 superbar.

Unfortunately, no such setting yet :/

Because the favicon moved to the tab, it’s there we need to look and not on the address bar anymore.

I’m getting used to it, and in some way, it’s more straightforward: image and title next to each other.

Search suggestions can also be turned off by going into the prefs, on the search tab and turning it off there. :)

    I need that. I think it’s awesome.

I forgot to mention that with search suggestions off it still suggests queries when you enter the alias, e.g. when I type g (for Google) and then enter something it starts suggest other things.

I don’t need search tools to hold my hand and tell me what they think I’m looking for. I’ll find it myself, thanks.
