Mozilla To Block Most Of The Firefox Plugins By Default

Mozilla To Block Most Of The Firefox Plugins By DefaultNo ETA yet.

In an effort to make maximize Firefox’s security, Mozilla has announced its plan to block all 3rd party plugins from loading by default with one exception being the latest version of Adobe Flash.

This includes Microsoft’s Silverlight and Adobe’s Acrobat Reader, even if they run the latest version of a said plugin. Ironically, Flash is known to be far less secure than the Silverlight so it looks like Mozilla is choosing popularity over security.

In case of the blocked plugins, Firefox will use a “Click to Play” mechanism, which will require user interaction before it is loaded, however, when it comes to the outdated version of Adobe’s Flash, Mozilla will reportedly suggest you to update it to the latest stable version.

In our opinion, Java must be disabled by default while Silverlight and Acrobat Reader plugins should be blocked only if there is a newer version floating around. What do you think?

[Thanks, Tibor]

X must be blocked by default…

Unless you have wide international sudies that indicate that X in form of plugin is in deed THE most used vector, that statement is populism at best.

Why mozilla thinks I’m not able to decide what plugin I need? I really can’t understand these decisions

I’m fine with Click To Play but they should do so with ALL plugins if they’re going to do such a thing. It would also mean Flash ads wouldn’t run. ^w^

I hope there is a way to opt-out of this crap. :(
