Moonlight 1.0 Released

By | February 14, 2009

Just a few days ago, Moonlight, the open source GNU/Linux and Unix framework that plays video and applications made on Silverlight has been released.

The way to install Moonlight is by a Firefox addon. It works on 32 and 64 bit operating systems. However, the following release is not compatible with Silverlight 2 yet.

  1. Grrblt says:

Does it work on anything else than FF?

  2. I haven’t really tried with another browser so I cannot say if it works on anything else than FF.

  3. nobody says:

it works for all ff-based browsers.

it is amazing, that you can run silverlight on unix/linux and you cant in Opera..

Opera, are you deaf? wake up!

  4. The problem is not with the browser, is with the creators of the software, so they decide to which browser focus the software like FF and IE, the ones that have the most market.

  5. Rudradeep Biswas says:

u can run silverlight on opera by tweaking ….. google it

  6. nobody says:

try keyboard input and say it again.. silverlight 2 does not work in opera properly, and it WAS PROMISED by opera more than a year ago.

    they didnt deliver

  7. lulz says:

    @nobody

Silverlight does work, except there is some browser sniffing thing in the actual plugin or something.

But it shouldn’t be surprised that a rabid troll like yourself keeps blaming Opera for the failings of others.

  8. sigh says:

Hey nobody (a true description if there ever was one)!

Silverlight does work, except there is some browser sniffing thing in the actual plugin or something. But hey, keep ignoring facts and blaming Opera! It’s what you do after all.

  9. nobody says:

“Silverlight does work, except there is some browser sniffing thing in the actual plugin or something.”

you sound like a true expert, you know ‘or something’

you know so little.. it isnt browser sniffing that makes SL fail, it is actual Opera implementation of NS plugin architecture. Opera is ‘holier than a Pope’ and ‘knows best’ about how to implement netscape’ own plugin wrapper. sorry, but they know wrong.

you can circumvent browser sniffing with rewritting proxy, and yet, you cant enable keyboard input in SL in Opera, due to opera paranoidal ‘security’ model of NS plugin architecture

or, in simpler words for people like you – it is opera’ fault.
