Microsoft Says Your Web Browser Matters

Microsoft Says Your Web Browser Matters

Says Internet Explorer is superior.

Here comes another marketing round from Microsoft, as it has launched a YourBrowserMatters.org web site, designed to inform everyday consumer (who rarely visits such pages anyway) about the dangers of the Internet.

Basically, it goes like this:

– User enters the web site,
– Microsoft offers them some advice on how to stay safer online
– Offers to test their web browser security
– Demonstrates that Internet Explore beats Firefox and Google Chrome
– Job well done.

Unfortunately, Safari and Opera web browsers were not included and in case of Opera, when it came to testing, it wasn’t even recognized.

Well, isn’t that just a low blow to Opera…

    • Scorpion3003 says:

That site is a load of crap anyway. can’t take it serious if it doesn’t include all the the major
      browsers.

  2. Pseudo555 says:

if you mask opera as IE, you will got a 4/4 score…

    • Katimwilk says:

Yes, the test is really just browser sniffing to determine what content you’ll be shown. Perfect example of how browser sniffing works.

  3. Shane Bundy says:

Nightly builds of Firefox don’t register. :-|

  4. Anonymous says:

I don’t know anyone that uses Safari on windows. Microsoft wouldn’t bother same thing with Opera.

All of the browsers do a good job at screening. I have found from experience that IE does it one better

  5. Moz says:

As a regular user and supporter of IE9, this really is nothing more than bad propaganda. Without stating any reasons why Firefox and Chrome get a 2/4 while IE9 gets a 4/4, you can’t take anything on that site seriously.

I don’t know who thought doing this was a good idea, but they really should re-think their marketing strategy, because this is a complete failure.

  6. Microsoft should be ashamed of itself, but instead of that it shamelessly says other browsers do not line up with IE. In real world, IE is a huge piece of crap and junk. IE is surviving due to Windows. One day when Windows finally meets a huge competitor which is both financially and technologically strong, then Microsoft could think about it’s end.

  7. Heh. Opera, a major browser? Since when does having less than 3% of the desktop market share make you a “major browser”?

    • Armin says:

Opera is part of the top five. There aren’t any other browsers out there that have over 1% of the market.
