June, 2010 – Boom! Internet Explorer Gains Market Share; Firefox, Opera – Loses
As yet another month has passed by, it’s time to find out, how browsers market share has evolved over past 30 days.
Surprisingly, Internet Explorer has increased its market share by 0.57 point, from 59.75% to 60.32%.
Firefox market share has been consolidating for a while now. This time it went down from 24.32% to 23.81%, 0.51 point decrease.
Just like any other month, Chrome market share trend keeps going up, from 7.04% to 7.24% (0.2 point increase).
With iPad and Safari 5 releases, Apple’s web browser has gained 0.08 point of the market share, up from 4.77% to 4.85%.
Just like Firefox, Opera has also lost a small chunk of share, down from 2.43% to 2.27% (0.16 point decrease).
Opera Mini lost 0.08 point of the market share as well, going down from 0.74% to 0.66%.

I think this is plenty of proof that Firefox’s biggest adversary is Internet Explorer, and not tiny simple Chrome… Chrome keeps going in its merry (now slowing down) market share growth, and Firefox start loosing curiously about the same amount as Internet Explorer gains…
This may be a result of the well known and common Firefox summer recession, but the important thing is that, as soon as Firefox 4 hits the download shelves, the competitors are going to be annihilated. There’s just SO MUCH hot stuff! And it looks modern, and if you don’t like modern you can easily make it look like Firefox 3.6, without any add-ons or anything, just settings, and it’s looking almighty :D
That’s what I thought about Opera 8.5 going ad-free. Then the features of Opera 9… and 9.5… then 10… and 10.5 with its massive speed boost…
It seems being the best isn’t that important. I think Firefox’s gains will be moderate, and would happen regardless of what new features it introduces.
Well, Google Chrome’s success does point to that (being the best not important). And I’m not being sarcastic. I just think it will shut up all those whiny kids that go “oh, foxfire isn’t as unusable as chrome, blah blah blah…”, well now you can make it as unusable as Chrome, how about that!

Biggest wonder is for me , when all the browsers are releasing multiple version quickly with more & more features and IE 8 was released long time back and after that there was no release. Wondering what has made for this share increase again. Probably IE 9 platform edition contributed here. Because I see almost every non-IE users are downloading the IE 9 Platform preview build and trying it.
That’s has nothing to do with people downloading IE 9 platform edition. I think that it has to do with people upgrading their OS to windows 7 and using IE8 as a default browser.
Well for me answer is simple. IE adverts. I’ve seen them on billboards, and on TV, here in Poland. They have money, so they can use regular ads, which target lot of people.
Only google could do the same, and they problably will.
BTW. IE advertised itself as “safest browser”. Funny that you can lie like that in advertising :P
But NSS Labs claims IE 8 has the better phishing detection than other browsers. I think microsoft uses that data and claims it is “safest browser”.
