Internet Explorer With Kinect For Xbox 360 In Dev

IE’s market share to explode.

If the recent report is true then it looks like Microsoft has finally cracked the issue with the web browsers on a console as the software giant is said to be testing the modified version of IE9 on its Xbox 360 console, which will include some interesting features.

According to TheVerge, with the help of Internet Explorer 9, Xbox users will finally be able to surf the web straight for their living room.

How is this different than the PS3 web browser? First of all, it has voice control but most importantly, Kinect gestures will also be a huge part of the overall web experience because… Who really needs a controller? While details remain vague, we expect to hear more from Microsoft during their E3 keynote, which is set for early June.

If it’s IE9 will it be HWA? Mind you, anything’s better than that NetFront browser on the PS3.

    • Haha, it should be!

         Reason?

        • Microsoft said that they did not want to bring browser to xbox (years ago) because it suked and they couldn’t figure out how to make it work properly (in terms of user experience, etc). I think HWA at least partially solves this issue.

Since IE9 includes hwa and their recent Windows phone platform also utilizes hwa, I think it’s a safe bet.

After all, Xbox 360 already supports HWA for video decoding :)

          • Przemysław Lib says:

HWA for Video Decoding have nothing to do with HWA for HTML and web pages in general.

And also DX from WinV/7 which MS use for HWA is simply not present on Xbox!

I would gladly see up to date Web Browser on Xbox, but IE9 simply can not deliver.

          • I agree with HWA, I was just saying that Microsoft is not exactly new when it comes to HWA and they have done quite a few projects in the past.

We will find out soon enough :)

    • Przemysław Lib says:

       Do not fear!

MS did showed with IE9 64bit how good they are with porting IE to new hardware :P ;)

Why not IE10 already? It’s almost finished for Windows 8 / Windows Phone 8

    LOL.

Evertime I submit an article to this guy, he finds a related on from said site and posts it.

    Cheeky bugger.

    • LOL, I started reading TheVerge once Tom moved there, MS tag only though :)

Kinect is a huge flop.   Tech looking for a purpose.  Endless run of shovelware novelty titles and applications doesn’t really count…

      • I wouldn’t consider the best selling tech gadget of all time a flop :) And if you follow any major tech sites, there are always amazing demos and hacks for it, ranging from medicine to augmented reality sand box.

      • Ichann says:

i have a kinect and it is really good.

Also, what does that have to do with anything?

2006 called with a message from Nintendo. Not sure what it said, but we can probably guess.

    • It probably said: stop releasing Mario games every two weeks and do something with Wii specs before you start losing money in 2012 :)

      • jayjam says:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold more than the best selling Xbox 360 game (and wasn’t even the best selling game on Wii).
