Internet Explorer 9 Overtakes Internet Explorer 6

For many weeks the kingdom was full of joy as kings, sorcerers and even peasants, celebrated the victory on the Internets. Such was the feast that alchemists themselves revealed the Philosopher’s Stone secrets and flooded everyone with gold.

According to the StatCounter, IE6 market share (4.26%) has been surpassed by its superior brother, IE9, which is currently responsible for the 4.34% of Internet traffic. Still a long way to go…

    What was that?

  2. Armin says:

That certainly is good news. What I deem sad nevertheless is that IE6 still has more market share than the likes of Opera and Maxthon combined despite the latter two being obviously superior browsers.

    • Tiago Sá says:

Well, in europe, IE6 accounts for 1,57% of the market, while in north america, it’s 1,89%. It’s basically China messing up the numbers.

      • Armin says:

What’s causing them to use IE6? Haven’t they heard of the better browsers? Heck, Maxthon is Chinese and I believe ChromePlus originates from China as well.

  3. Anonymous says:

maxthon is the most popular in china. the earlier versions used ie extensively. maybe the user-agent was ie based which would result in ie market share?

    • Armin says:

So people haven’t updated Maxthon since then?

      • Anonymous says:

Maybe. I mean people using IE6 do not upgrade.

The new Maxthon is good except for the screen estate. Once they minimize the toolbars a bit, it will be a good browser. And extensions support.

        • Armin says:

The newest update allows you to turn several things off but you still can’t turn off the status bar. At least I myself can’t figure out how.
