Internet Explorer 10 Metro Ditches Plugin Support

Favors HTML5.

The Metro style (Immersive) version of Internet Explorer 10 is ditching plug-in support, Microsoft’s spokesman reported earlier today.

According to the software giant, during the 97,000 thousand sites study, they have found that as many as 62% of all those sites that currently use Adobe Flash already fall back to HTML5 video in case there is no such plugin installed.

So what are the benefits? As Steven Sinofsky, the President of the Windows Division said, “Running Metro style IE plug-in free improves battery life as well as security, reliability, and privacy for consumers.”.

Don’t worry yet though, the desktop version will keep such plugin support intact.

I think you misunderstood the article. Plugins and addons in IE10 are supported; Flash and Silverlight just won’t work when running from Metro apps written in HTML5+JS.
