Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) vs. Google Chrome 17 vs. Firefox 10 vs. Opera 11.60

With the release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview, guys at Neowin have managed to benchmark the latest version of IE10, which is Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 5, running in both desktop and Metro modes.

What’s the difference between IE10 Metro and Desktop? IE Metro (aka Immersive web browser) uses the 64 bit libraries by default.

Tested browsers

Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) PP5
Google Chrome 17
Firefox 10
Opera 11.60

Benchmark results

Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) vs. Google Chrome 17 vs. Firefox 10 vs. Opera 11.60

Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) vs. Google Chrome 17 vs. Firefox 10 vs. Opera 11.60

Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) vs. Google Chrome 17 vs. Firefox 10 vs. Opera 11.60

Internet Explorer 10 (IE10) vs. Google Chrome 17 vs. Firefox 10 vs. Opera 11.60

What do you think about the results? Although it’s just a sneak peak, minus the HTML5 test, IE10 performance is pretty good. However, keep in mind that it was tested against the latest stable and not beta builds of other web browsers.

I think they should have done some more modern tests. SunSpider became irrelevant long time ago. Why not use Kraken or V8 benchmark?

    • non says:

isn’t the chormium based browsers have advantage in V8 ?

    • Przemysław Lib says:

Best use them both, V8 is labelled as “how chromish your chrome is”, and results it gives are errr… :) I think V8 is “valid” but should not be solely relayed on.

  2. Maxim says:

They test IE 10 vs Opera 11.60 which is not even latest stable version. LOL.

    • Mikah says:

And no HWA  for Opera pointless to include it all , the latest version of Opera 12 Next running Fishbowl with 2000 fish = 60 fps on my PC

  3. adumpaul says:

Chrome 17 is the best as sunspider and html 5 test.

  4. Did you test this on a 486? I get 60fps on fishbowl and betafishie the tests in firefox 10.

  5. Przemysław Lib says:

    SHAME ON YOU!

2 Rule of any web browser comparisions:

ALLWAYS set against each others “equals” versions of Browsers (development vs developement, current stable vs current stable) !

Firefox Nightly, and Chrome Canary SHOULD HAVE BEEN USED!
(Do not know what Opera call its alpha software — Yes IE PPs are alpha)

  6. Max Renn says:

With 1 fps I can really see the frames of animation more closely.

  7. Why in the hell didnt you include latest stable Opera 11.61, the latest Opera 11.61 snapshot or the latest Opera Next 12.00 build?

  8. Azn Souldier says:

Yeah, I’m confused about Opera too. 11.61 has already been released; the snapshots are 11.62 and they replace the existing version of Opera when they are installed. There was not reason for 11.60 to be tested instead of 11.61 IMO

  9. Jorjy27 says:

Who cares? Cause i still love Opera & i’ll keep doing it. It gives me flexibility and speed. And moreover more customization. :-)

  10. Now Firefox is going too fast.. They released the Beta version of 11.. And I am with version 5 hah

    this is bullshit
