HTC HD2 “Unable to Initialize Camera” Error Fix

By | June 25, 2010

HTC HD2 Now, if you are receiving “Unable to initialize camera. Failed to set up the camera device” error on your HTC device (possibly any other Windows Mobile phone) and had no luck with soft reset, try the following:

Open task manager and make sure that Opera Mobile is not running, and close if it is. Now, I am not sure why it’s impossible to take pictures or record videos while you surf the net with Opera Mobile (as it makes very little sense), but here you have it, a quick and painless fix.

Reported problems with Mozilla Fennec, the mobile version of Mozilla Firefox, uninstalling the program worked for me. Battled with same error on my HD2.

In my case at first this fix worked (after quitting Opera the camera worekd again), but recently I got this error while not using the browser (in fact with no non-system apps running at all), and nothing helped except device reset.  Seems to be a memory allocation bug.

I have this error on my HTC HD2.
    Have upgraded firmware to V3.14
Have made factory reset. Then tried starting camera as the first action. NOGO.
Guess its a hardware error after all.
(Didnt try to format SD-card yet – Will do that soon….)
