And it's not "noticeable", it's just how it feels, and that's very good. With that kind of animations and bling, even a slower browser (not as slow as IE though, that one's hopeless) would feel fast. You do understand that, right? In any case, it's faster, but it's not noticeable. It's just the interface. And "age"? Webkit is one single year younger than Gecko. It's about how well you develop it, not how long. Cleaner UI at the expense of functionality, remember.

Gecko is really showing its age. Google's ad machine will steamroll over Firefox soon enough. It's strange that they didn't grow more considering all the advertising Google has been doing. Google is actively promoting it using their online ad system, you see. With extensions that's one less reason to use Firefox over Chrome. Chrome is already much faster. I don't think RAM matters much on the kind of PCs that will run Chrome. Unless there's a memory leak there shouldn't be a problem. Chrome is growing quite quickly. I say nobody cares because few people care. People use Chrome because of its lightweight or whatever, I don't know, I cannot understand why anybody uses it, but the numbers are clear: very few people use chrome NOW.
