Firefox Shows Some Love to Other Web Browsers

Firefox Shows Some Love to Other Web BrowsersTo make the story short: Before downloading Google Chrome, as usual, I have opened web browser and started to type “Google Chrome” in the address bar, predicting that it will lead me to the Google search results.

To my surprise, once I have typed that into Firefox 3 address bar and hit enter, it has opened Chrome home page instead.

Same with other web browser names: Internet Explorer, Safari and Opera queries lead to their home pages as well.

Kind of nice gesture from Mozilla, I guess.

This happens with any term not just the name of a browser. Firefox will take you to the to corresponding website that appears first in the google search results.

  2. I thought about that too. However, after entering “web browsers”, got search results instead.

I never understood WHAT makes some queries go directly to the first search results and others not. It must have something to do with Google, not firefox. See, I type “youtube” and it goes directly to youtube.com, but the same doesn’t happen with “ebay”. “gmail” used to work too, but SOMETIMES (including right now) it doesn’t. It must have something to do with the number of searches made of that in google, and the number of those that go straight to the first result.

It happens a lot with things like “greys anatomy episode list” and “bones episode list”. They don’t work the same. And other series, sometimes they show wikipedia, other times tv.com. It’s kind of a mess.

Thankfully, the awesomebar works flawlessly :D

  4. That makes this article useless, oh well… :-) Plenty more to come.
