Firefox 5 is Months Away

Firefox 5 is Months AwayIf you’ve been expecting Firefox 5 sometime next year then we have some good news for you.

According to Brendan Eich, the CTO of Mozilla, company is ready to speed up their release cycle and introduce Firefox 5 at the some point of this year.

Cast a colder eye on your blockers. Some of them can wait for a dot release or Firefox 5 that I do believe will be only months after 4 comes out. We are going to a fast release cycle. It serves our users better. To do that we have to get this touch and go done with Firefox 4.

If everything goes as planned, we should see the Final build of Firefox 4 sometime next monmth.

I just want Firefox 4 already. They can start talking about Firefox 5 after Firefox 4 is finally here. I have been waiting for months now.

    • Tiago Sá says:

It’s a joke. Firefox 4 is not gonna be half of what it was supposed to be. And probably not even Firefox 5. No next gen phishing protection with account manager, no home tab, no in content UI, no next gen site identification button. There’s no reason to stop using Firefox 3.6 in favor of any other browser TODAY, and when Firefox 4 comes out, there’ll be very little reason to upgrade, other than the obvious security, stability and speed.

      • Kurt Dirix says:

Fx 4 remains a massive, much needed and much anticipated upgrade. Problem was they wanted to do to much in one go, allowing competitors and even IE9 to catch up. It was a wise decision to postpone some features.

        • Armin says:

Chrome’s update intervals don’t seem so bad now, albeit still a bit silly. Things get done, though.

      • sarjoor says:

There’s every reason TODAY to upgrade to Opera, Chrome, or Safari because they work smoother, nicer, faster, are more responsive, and have good extenionséadd-ons.

As Kurt Dirix says, even IE9 has caught up to slow-developing Firefox. People definitely have every reason to try Opera, Chrome, and Safari.

        • Matthew says:

Let’s keep it in perspective, though. You might prefer the other browsers to Firefox, but Firefox is still a decent browser.

It’s standards-compliant, which puts it light-years ahead of Internet Explorer.

It’s good to have choices among the non-IE browsers. As long as a browser doesn’t cause major headaches for developers, and respects web standards, I don’t care what browser people use.

        • Tiago Sá says:

No browser in the market today can match, let alone surpass, the level of customization Firefox allows for. Tab Mix Plus alone is like half the time I spend browser cut down. The big advantage of Firefox, besides that it’s a public benefit browser made by a public benefit organization of thousands around the world, is that it’s focused on openness and customization, personalization, and having the web as our own. No other browser is like that, so it’s very natural that Firefox has and will keep having the best extensions around, and being the single best web platform to develop on.

Love the look of Firefox beta 10 very classy makes me feel at home as Opera is my main browser.
Did Firefox subcontract the design to Opera ?
If Firefox copied it they have done an excellent job its hard to tell them apart now.

  3. frank says:

  4. nvm says:
