Firefox 20 To Fix Private Browsing

Firefox 20 To Fix Private BrowsingBetter late than never.

A long time ago, with the release of Firefox 3.1 Beta 2, Mozilla has introduced a private browsing mode, you know, the one you use to buy Christmas gifts for your beloved ones.

However, it was pretty worthless as you had to close down an entire non private session in case you decided to have some fun.

4 years later, Mozilla team has finally rewrote the code and implemented a real deal. Although the majority of the users won’t be able to use it for quite some time (as per title), you can download the experimental Firefox 20 pre-alpha build from the following page.

Effing finally! Took them far too long, and yet it will still take some time longer! I like opening Firefox and resuming my previous session, but as Mozilla would have it, opening Firefox in private browsing mode and then reverting to normal browsing mode meant that my previous session vanished every single time. That means I would ALWAYS have to open Firefox in normal browsing mode and then in private browsing mode so as to not lose my previous session. Pretty nonsensical. Opera is definitely ahead of the game here.

Opening a private tab in the same window like in Opera is far more convenient.

At this point, per-window is a good start. If they still need to do more work to do it per-tab, then fine but I’ll take what they can offer outside of you having to save/shut down your entire current session to do so. It’s been one of my problems with Firefox compared to IE/Chrome/Opera that offer you have you current session/tabs open when you want to use the Private Browsing equivalent.

I might prefer it per-window just so I can keep the stuff organized as such (alternatively, I can use Firefox’s Panorama (?)/Grouping to keep them separated as well so I guess it doesn’t matter much).

FF20 ha!? “Built-in PDF viewer” was supposed to be implemented in FF14 and after so many regressions it’s finally added to FF19!

I believe this new feature will be available in FF24 or FF25 for those who think it’s necessary!

    p.s: use Tor, it’s more secure! :-)
