By | January 14, 2009

I have just removed recent published and “supposed to be funny” post on Opera’s Vision.

It was my mistake and I am sorry.

Cue Opera bashing in 5…4…3… (Surely it was Opera Software which evilly censored it!)

  2. Jaja, I knew about it but I thouhgt Opera changed its mind when I read the title of the post.

  3. andresruiz says:

Yes, good to remove it, it wasn’t funny at all.

  4. Foo says:

Not funny? The truth hurts, doesn’t it? :P

  5. Andrei says:

If my blog were to be a well-known one, i would have copied it there just to laugh at Opera’s face :P

  6. hello says:

I didn’t find it to be particularly funny. Seemed more like a kid not getting his way.

  7. Maulkin says:

I don’t think Opera ASA bothered replying to this, but I did.
And I really think it hasn’t got a place on this particular blog. (who is mostly unbiased, and that’s why I come here)

“I don’t think Opera ASA bothered replying to this, but I did.”

    You did what?

  9. The blog is stil unbiased, the thruth is that I’m an Opera fanboy and I did not find it offensive.

  10. bill says:

Didn’t think it was funny but surely it was not offensive and there was no reason to take it down. And there was some truth to it – extensions helped propel FireFox to where it is today and when Chrome implements them it will be even harder for Opera to grow on the desktop.

  11. Joel says:

I didn’t find it that offensive, but i didn’t find it funny either. The poor English in the post didn’t help its lack of apparent humour.

And extensions are not really why Firefox is popular. Although arguably its lightweight nature when downloaded has been helpful, most Firefox installations have no extensions, which does not benefit its usability when you turn up to a random/public installation.

  12. I actually liked the post (it was captured in my RSS reader).

I’m a long term Opera user and supporter (8 years now), and still I like the post.

Opera Software SAS urge to remove the post would be (is) far worse behavior than simply articulating reasons why it was not true.

  13. me says:

Opera didn’t ask for the post to be removed!

  14. “Opera didn’t ask for the post to be removed!”

    Glad to hear that :)

Then I’d simply miss the post ;)

  15. hello says:

The fact that he realized that the post was silly and childish, and removed it, was a good move which makes me reconsider ditching the site completely. Not everyone is able to admit a mistake. Kudos.

  16. hello says:

Oh, and there’s a difference between making fun of browsers and stereotypes, and outright insulting someone. The post was aimed at the Opera staff, unlike the other jokes that were aimed at the actual browsers.
