It’s all about the touch.

Following the release of Windows 8.1 Preview, users installing the following build will also be able to try the latest version of Internet Explorer 11, which seems to be aimed towards improving the touch based usage scenarios.

Now, depending on your usage, it might not look as exciting as you expect (considering that it will soon be a year since IE10 RTM’ed). Basically if all your do is use touch then Internet Explorer 11 is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.

Here’s what you can expect:

– GPU processed gestures and GPU offloaded image decoding, which will not only improve the overall responsiveness but also enhance your tablet/laptop battery life.
– Up to 100 tabs per window (apparently, there was a limit before, which, at least for the Windows Phone version is 6 tabs).
– Full support for Favorite sites with folders and custom tile pictures.
– Swipe gestures for faster navigation with page prediction and pre-rendering, which will load a previous or next page instantly.
– New developer tools (click here for some screenshots)

– SPDY/3 and WebGL support (Microsoft notes that IE11 will scan for unsafe WebGL content and implements a software-based renderer to complement the GPU).
– … and more

Interestingly enough, Microsoft is yet to reveal some of the Internet Explorer 11 features, SPDY support being one of them, which was not detailed in the IE Blog post.

Yes , it seems to me there as a limit. I think something around 47 tabs, don’t know the exact value. When I tried to open one more it happened one of three things:
    – The browser opened the new one inside a new window. Not so problematic. But if you were on a private window, the new one window … would not be private!
    – The browser did not render not anything in any tab. Everything is white!
    – The browser crashed and terminated unexpectedly!

    did microsoft change the UI?

    • As far as I am aware, they did not. I would test IE11 myself but if you upgrade from 8 to Previews to RTM, you will lose all your apps. However, if you upgrade from 8 to RTM of 8.1, data will remain.

      Stupid, I know
