They’ve yet to bring M2’s features into M3, although some are implemented.

    • Armin says:

      Feel free to elaborate!

      • Shane Bundy says:

Now I look at the list of new features added into Maxthon 3.1.8 and I like what I see. All the features I use were already in Maxthon from 3.1.

I wasn’t trolling on Maxthon or anything because I love what they do.

Sorry for digressing but I can’t think of anything that’s missing from Maxthon now.

        • Armin says:

So M3 had everything you liked in M2 from the start? Your initial post is an odd one then. :P

          • Rafael says:

Armin “Lock Tab” for example was present on Mx 2, not present on Mx 3, and now they re-implemented it.
Why? -> Mx 2 was Gecko based and since Mozilla won’t be making Gecko available as standalone for third party software anymore they made Mx 3 WebKit based which required them to rewrite a lot of things and left others out to release the new version. And now they are bringing the features back, you can check Maxthon forums and you’ll see that users are asking things from Mx 2 to back on this new version (I don’t know exactly which ones but they’re).

          • Armin says:

Is that why Flock switched from Gecko to WebKit as well? That doesn’t sound like a very “open” thing of Mozilla to do.

          • Rafael says:

Yes that’s why Flock switched to WebKit (before the company was bought and completely discontinued the browser) and all Gecko-based browsers will have to do it to continue improving on Web standards (or fork the whole Fx? I don’t know).
The strange thing is I can’t find the story about Gecko not being available updated for third-party use anymore. I remember clearly of this story here in FavBrowser at the times Fx 4 was about to be released or had been just released and I can’t find anymore (used Web search and went through 50 pages on the tags Mozila and Firefox here).

M3 didn’t have it all from the beginning. I watched them add the features since it was in alpha. It was ‘complete’ for me at 3.1.
