Download Baidu Browser Beta

Baidu, China’s largest search engine has launched the Beta version of its own web browser, which was in development for quite some time, as reported earlier by FavBrowser.

Codenamed FlyFlow, Baidu Browser uses the WebKit rendering engine that seems to be a number one choice for many web browser developers these days.

Furthermore, FlyFlow has over 30,000 available applications for its users to choose from, ranging from online games to videos.

Download.

Looks like it is inspired by chrome… who wonders? Chrome is the winner of the last 2 years in the browser market, of course they copy a winning design….

  2. Rafael says:

Of course WebKit is the number one choice, it’s the only choice since common you won’t use Trident, and Gecko aren’t going to be updated for use outside of Mozilla anymore…

  3. Mohan says:

    It’s probably based on Chromium.

  4. Armin says:

Chrome, RockMelt, ChromePlus, Comodo Dragon, Iron, and now Baidu Browser. So many Chromium based web browsers…

Why can’t the Chinese come up with ANYTHING original?

    • Rafael says:

But… See, no browser is being developed from scratch… Aside from Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera and NetSurf. Other browsers are all “shells”, implementing the rendering engine of the ones that let it…
Maxthon, a browser developed in China, brings some features others don’t have.

      • More rendering engines = nightmares to the web developers and end users.

They are just being smart, not lazy :)

        • Rafael says:

          Sorry, you’re wrong…
More rendering engines = no problem if we are in a Web ruled by standards.
Here’s what you were trying to say: they’re being smart choosing an existent rendering engine because they don’t want an HUGE work (when they can get a speedy rendering engine for free and apply the features they want) and after that to be nagged because developers who were trained to make websites only to work with Trident, Gecko and WebKit instead of using pure Web standards from the start…
          Just like Rockmelt.

          • Yep, it’s like Boeing buying General Electric and Rolls Royce engines, instead of wasting their time developing something what is already invented.

          • nasti says:

Yes, competition is a terrible thing. Different companies competing to make the same kind of products! What a waste! Monopolies are better. They always lead to major innovations. Yes indeed.

We all remember how innovative things were when IE owned the web. We should go back to that. Just one engine. Who needs progress and innovation? Who needs competition?

It’s a waste to develop something that was already invented!

          • Ryan says:

Well IE wasn’t the first browser ever made and I really hope you wouldn’t want that engine to own the web. I like variation and glad I’m not forced to use that piece of crap.

      • Armin says:

Didn’t Chrome simply take Safari’s rendering engine? :P

      • Anonymous says:

I wasn’t referring to the fact that it’s based on Webkit.  I’m *glad* it’s based on Webkit.  I’m referring to the fact that this browser looks like a crappy Chrome theme.

      • IE & Opera FanBoy says:

        Very good question,
Only IE, Opera & Safari (because WebKit is from them), Others are mostly the Chrome work!!

      • ChasL says:

Dude, IE was originally based on Mosaic.

        • Rafael says:

But Mosaic layout engine was completely rewritten into Trident…
Well, call what you like, IE is an updated version of Mosaic, just with a new name and passing through modifications, not a “non-original” browser.

    • Nobody says:

like paper, gunpowder, china, music notation, rockets, organised military, siege techniques and some other non-originalities? :)

      • Anonymous says:

Sorry, I should have said: “Why can’t the Chinese of the past 200 years come up with ANYTHING original?”

        • Carnage says:

Why be original when it’s cheaper and more profitable to copy and mass produce, working as the world’s factory? Making another web browser from scratch is an immensely daunting task, one shunned by Google themselves.

    Looks like a
chrome with a different icon. This browser are useful to the ones who like
    playing games and watching videos.
Can’t not attract me. Can not compare with the Avant browser I’m now using. I
don’t think it will effect the share market of these browsers like chrome
    firefox.

Kids these days all saying “it looks like Chrome”. Long time ago when only Opera had tabs on top of the address bar most kept asking how to take them bellow.

Google comes along with its aggressive and sometimes false advertising and all of a sudden ALL browsers have tabs on top.

I remember when I first saw a screenshot of an early/alpha implementation of tabs on top in Firefox I had to look 3 times at it to make sure it isn’t Opera by mistake.

The more people copy Chrome the more Google Chrome’s value drops ..use to be a decent clean user interface now its just boring and now i cant stand it not one bit . Personally I think i’ll never use Google Chrome ever again. I rather use Firefox,Opera,IE9 or even the long forgotten MX3
