Firefox 3.5+ also does this, since it integrated the Show Keywords extension. Cleeki is also available for Firefox, if you missed that. There are also other alternatives available if one doesn't like it.

As for drag&dropping, I use Cleeki so I don’t even have to drag & drop. It’s like accelerators on IE. So I just select the text I want to search and click an icon of the search engine of my choice, without dragging anything anywhere.

“you can’t choose as easy what search engine you want to use”
well as a matter of fact, you can – there’s keywords.
For example I set “y” to Youtube so I can just type in “y whatever” and there we go (a Youtube search).
I’m really not sure what could be easier?

Firefox by the way also has that, although the nice thing about Chrome’s omnibar is that it detects keywords immediately (in my example – right after I type “w”) and the text changes “y w” becomes “Search Youtube: w”.

This nice in case if you use a lot of search engines and you’re not always sure whether you remember the correct keyword.

Opera and Chrome both open much faster than Firefox. They also have far more responsive UIs.

Ok… I guess that explains why Firefox and Chrome opens equally fast, something that feels instant, while Opera takes some 8+ seconds to even show the GUI.

Chrome uses the WebKit layout engine, used by Konqueror, Safari and some others.

Acid3 were designed to break in the major browsers of that time, this were before Chrome even existed.
