Web Browsers IQ Study Is A Hoax
IE users rejoice.
Earlier this week, we reported about the recent study which claims that IE users tend to have a lower IQ when compared to other web browser users. Turns out, it was a hoax all along.
According to BBC, the web site that published results was set up just weeks before official announcement and used staff images copied from Central Test, a French company specializing in research.
Although ApTiquant has already changed some of its staff member names, they did that few days too late.

July, 2011: Google Chrome, Safari Share Up; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera – Down
It’s August already as we look at the July’s web browser market share numbers. As you will see from the stats below, this month was awful for everyone but WebKit.
Internet Explorer is first in our list and there are no surprises here. It has lost some of its market share again, down from 53.68% to 52.71% (0.97 point decrease).
Firefox 5 did not change the situation for Mozilla as its browser market share continues to grind lower, down from 21.67% to 21.47% (0.2 point decrease).

By collecting data from more than 100,000 users, a research firm has revealed that the majority of Internet Explorer users tend to have a lower IQ than Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera or Camino users. No one cares about the EQ anyway.
However, if you use the Internet Explorer with Google Chrome frame, there is a hope for you too.

58 Safari Bugs Patched To Prevent Drive By Attacks
Apple updated Safari to version 5.1 yesterday, patching 58 security vulnerabilities and beefing up the browser with several new features, including sandboxing on Mac OS X 10.7.
Safari 5.1 is bundled with Lion, the operating system Apple released earlier yesterday. Good news is that it also runs on Mac OS X 10.6 i.e. Snow Leopard. A separate Safari update to version 5.0.6 was also issued today for users running Mac OS X 10.5, or Leopard.

Web Browsers Malware Benchmark 2011
Internet Explorer 9 scores 99-100%.
NSS Labs, an independent network testing facility, has tested 5 most popular web browsers against the socially engineered malware, resulting in more controversy and flame wars all over the Internet.
Although some claim that results are sponsored by Microsoft, Rick Moy, the president of NSS Labs, said that while Microsoft did hire them to benchmark various web browsers few years ago, it was only to improve Internet Explorer’s security. However, after seeing some positive numbers, it was only then sent to the marketing department to do their thing.

Beware Of The Windows 8 UX Pack 2.0 Malware
Recently, an application called Windows 8 UX Pack 2.0 was released, designed to make your OS look like Windows 8.
If you are as excited as some people are, then downloading it is a no brainer. However, be warned:
After installing and uninstalling the software (did not work for me), I have noticed that it has hijacked my web browsers settings with no warning. Not just Microsoft’s Internet Explorer’s, but also Mozilla’s Firefox and Opera’s (Chrome was not touched).

June, 2011: Google Chrome, Safari Share Up; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera – Down
As Internet Explorer is heading towards the 49% market share mark and Firefox continues its downtrend, we see interesting times are approaching indeed, but as for now, let’s focus on what had happened over the course of June.
No surprises here, Internet Explorer has lost some of its market share again, down from 54.27% to 53.68% (0.59 point decrease).
