A magazine style design probably wouldn't work here. Maybe if you had more posts that what you have now. If you're keeping the blog structure, than it should be very easy to build a theme from the ground up. If you'd like something more complex, feel free to mail me if you need any help at all. I built my own theme too, magazine style ( http://nocontinues.net/ ) and it was a bit hard to do. But it works flawlessly :D Good luck with everything. Good to hear.
